Hands down, The Black Swan Soi 19.

I like the Black Swan as well. The owner is friendly and so are the staff. But i liked the former location much better. Had more room and a quirky layout. More homey IMHO

A plug for Fatty's Bar & Diner, if one is a musician. Tiny Place. Keep your elbows in whilst eating lest you hit the drum kit.

Rama 9 road in Din Daeng. Burgers, Dogs, Poutine, Wisconsin Cheese Curds (whatever they are)  etc.

Robin Hood for 2 just before happy hour closes, then up to the Royal Oak for a couple together with their Paprika Chunky Wedges.  Then back to the Hood until my last train home  10:25 or I meet someone reasonable  ( and believe me I've met some characters in my outings ) and then have to get a taxi.

Several reasons for all this.  Firstly I love beer ( the Guinness is OK in the Hood) , even more than I love my wife's pet dogs.  Secondly I live out in Nonthaburi where no farang ventures so it's the only chance I get to socialise. The problem lies trying to get a taxi to take you out to Nonthaburi at midnight.

After all that I still prefer a good old English pub, shame they are all starting to think they are gourmet restaurants.  Last but not least, the bar on my Moo Bahn, don't have to worry about plod if I have a mg over the limit and drive.

I’m not a solo drinker... and only go to pubs / bars when meeting up with friends... so I’m not interested in meeting others, strangers etc...  primary reason for that is whenever I’ve ended up chatting to a lonesome figure in a bar he turns out to be a whack-job and I end up making my excuses to get out of there !!!!

Thanks guys and gals!

I've been to Robin Hood many times and like it there too.

I patiently wait for the day we can go out again "normally.

Tawandang German Brewery.

Probably best pub in the world IMO.

The beer is the best I have ever tasted, good table service, good food, live music and hundreds of drunk Thai women often in work groups that will happily share their beer towers and be chatted up by a foreigner who can speak Thai.

On the subject; too bad about the complete demise of Gullivers on Sukhumvit 5.

At one time one of the best places around for mixed crowds.  Decent food and beer and a huge space with a great outdoor terrace.

It was dead even before Covid hit.  Two years ago, I went in on a late Sunday afternoon, absolute prime time previously and the entire place was dark except for the very front, by the entry.  One bartender, One waitress and no other customers except a guy in a burnouse yelling into his phone in a corner.

Brings back fond memories of me in my Lederhosen full to the brim. What great evenings we had.

Yeah, I liked that place too. Haven't been there in years though.

The best pub I ever visited regularly in Bangkok was sort of a cross between a pub/restaurant/music venue and sadly - disappeared a few years ago so I can't really reccomend it.  However,  I've heard rumours that it opened up again in a different part of town.

It had a very strange name for a pub - 'Admakers' if my memory serves me correctly and it was on Lang Suan. We used to go every weekend - saw some excellent bands there and the food was good.  It wasn't too expensive but enough to keep the nylon football shirt and sandal wearing fraternity away.

There is a seemingly related Facebook page but its in Thai (can't read it) and has entries in 2019 - the bar on Lang Suan closed before 2019.  If they are still around and doing the same thing - its a great night out. A location map shows an address in the Ratchadapisek Road area.

Anyone know if they did actually open up elsewhere? Is Ratchdapisek where they moved to?

I find it always interesting when people ask that question. Do you expect an honest answer?

Because as we all know it's not just the food and beer and the staff and the pool tables. A good part of what makes a pub a favorite are the guest. If people don't like the regular guests then it's unlikely that they will like the pub. And if the regular guest are replaced by "tourists" who read about that special pub somewhere on the internet then the pub is suddenly not so special anymore.

That is why I would never publish anything about my favorite places on the internet. Because I want to keep them as MY favorite places and they wouldn't be MY favorite places anymore with lots of strangers.

Over to you.

100 per cent ...half the reason all the best spots get ruined is because some knucklehead on the internet tells someone with no drive, intelligence, inspiration and very little ability exactly where to go...

Here's a tip find your own special spots.

Admakers in Langsuan was a great place to go to for eats and some beers.... a great mixed crowd and good music.

It closure was a disappointment. I never went to the new place.

Surprised Black Swan is getting so much love. It is ok, nothing special.

Glad to hear the Londoner is still making its own beer.

The Bull on soi 33/1..? Used to have Old Speckled Hen...and Guinness...Most pubs are ruined by TV and endless international  sport blaring out. Dreadful..The Hilary bars used to be OK..The Golden Bar was the best but alas no more..The Londoner on Soi 33 moved....To be honest I only know of one country that has pubs and that's Britain..The bane of pubs here is the mock Oirish pub..The Falsegans and O'Mc Plastic etc. Another problem is the patrons of pubs..the well packaged, well heeled expats living and incomprehensible lifestyle, tie wearing, suited and booted dodgy blokes downing their last pint quickly to rush home to Mrs Mousey Bitter Plainjane
