Thai netizens were having a field day after pictures of a wiggly road were posted online.

A picture on "Roadside Politics" on Facebook showed the road that should have been straight but has a kink in it outside a building.

The site said it was in Muang Surin in Thailand's north east. They asked "How did that happen?'

People liked a joke by one poster who posted a sign of a car skidding.

The Kuykhia site gave further details suggesting it was resurfacing work contracted out by the Jom Phra sub-district utilising a budget of more than 2.4 million baht.

After some "e-bidding" the contractors applied some new asphalt so the road was just like before....only better!

Apparently it is in the Tessaban 7 and 9 area by a fitness park.

Netizens used the opportunity to post other crazy pictures of idiocy in repairing the Thai roads amid much sharing and general merriment.

TIT what else can you say they do all kinds of stupid here .

Thailand is well know for being "kinky", but it's usually in Pattaya and it's like!

I think it's a chicane to try and slow down the racing pickups...!

There were probably a few soi dogs sleeping or a food vendor. They just worked around.

The kink is there to accommodate the water pipe (looks like the one they have here to fill the water trucks for the fire department), and at least they have finished the job! When I got here 8 years ago they were working on the road here.... and they are still working! I can only guess it's a never ending string of brown envelopes that keeps the work going...

It's a cunning plan to improve road safety. Statistically most Thai's have accidents when they are driving along a straight road.

The most amusing/sad (take your pick) thing about this is that the lead story has no explanation of why the road is this way.

You mean police sleeping booth

Garage 54 has the ideal car for this road.. Skip to the 10:00 mark..

The explanation is, that they have resurfaced the old road which had the same kink in it. The building you see in the picture is the public toilets and those have a footpath in front. But anyways, this road is only leading to the temple and only get used to bypass the police checkpoint on the main road. You have to pass the temple area and leave it on the second entrance. So, this was a good decision not to straighten the short cut for drunken Somchai. Otherwise he would hit the temple with full speed in his Fortuner.

There's no freakin way you are taking 1 meter of my front yard. Where the hell do you think I'll be able to park my scooter?

Nothing new about wriggly bits in the road down under in Aus.

They put them everywhere only both sides are wriggly AND they put a whopping great lump of concrete in the middle with some 4mm chain mesh fence around the sides and call them " Refuge Islands".........no idea what they are supposed to do.

Biggest piece of krap anyone ever invented.

Outright traffic hazard.

This should sort out a few front ends after a night on the Lao Khao.

That's what I thought at first glance.  But it looks more like they didn't want to take out the existing driveway or whatever it is there.  Even the gutter stops and starts around it.  Maybe Nai oak or phu yai bahn home.

He will still hit the temple, as he will take no notice of the curve, and may be airlifted while going at speed over the soft part

Berlin can do it better (even though it’s a bicycle lane in this case):

At least the road does not look like this one. Still pretty silly.

Geezer
