Thailand on Saturday (June 5) reported 2,817 new COVID-19 cases and 36 additional deaths.

● 2,502 new infections
● 315 prison / prison infections

Saturday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 174,796 with 1,213 deaths.

The Covid train just keeps a rolling along.  Now people are being warned about shopping in the malls and locations surrounding the now known clusters as it appears they are finding new clusters.  Lets stop calling them clusters but instead say there are large groupings of people being found with covid and it keeps spreading.  They need to stop the whack-a-mole experiment and get out ahead of this and test, test, test in a bigger ring from where cases are found.  If not we will see this just continue onward until it swallows the whole country.

So 182 reported deaths in 5 days. On track for 1000+ deaths this month. If this is the case it will be around 1,800 deaths in 2 months. Infections at this rate will be coming up on 250,000 so around 180,000 infections in 2 months. Of course one cannot predict the future but it is definitely trending that way. Over the 15 month period Thailand is now at number 80 on the covid charts and into number 17 for the worst weekly trends in the world.

And they still think tourists want to come here

They are persistent and optimistic one could say. Wish they were of the same mindset for taking care of the country.

It will be interesting to see if we have a spike in the next 2 days, per Brian's pattern that he detected.

If so, it should have something to do with lab processing over the weekend, maybe more tests can be analyzed on weekends.

Let's face it, 2,500 cases a day means that the virus is effectively circulating out of control.  There is no way the public health people can contact-trace for 2,500 cases a day.  So-called "clusters" pop up where testing happens to be going on, but in reality the virus is all over the place, or soon will be -- at least in Bangkok.  It may not be all over the place in high concentrations, though, so infection is still avoidable for any given individual.  The only thing to do now is socially isolate as much as possible and wait for a vaccine.

Yet still hanging in there at 159th for total cases per 1m of the population.

If the virus was out of control the numbers wouldn't be fluctuating at around 2500 per day. They would be increasing exponentially.

I no longer believe in those figures.

I have a friend who tested positive a month ago. He was sent home and told to stay home for 8 day. Is he part of the statistics?

Another friend has just been diagnosed with pneumonia. No need to test for Covid. Sent home in isolation for 8 days.

So you think Thailand is doing good a job. Easy yes or no question. What's you answer? Yes or No.

So reassuring that they gave already talking and planning 3rd dose next year...

If only they would start with the 1st dose finally the whole thing would be a lot more credible.

Quoting statistics, same as you. Little touchy aren't you?

"Out of control" just means that it's not being reined in by the public health authorities.  It can circulate out of control without increasing exponentially because of the actions individuals take to socially-distance, wear masks, etc.  They (we) aren't controlling it, but are helping to contain it within some boundaries.

I agree with you, though, that the stats they publish are horse feathers.  The only way we will ever know if it does start increasing exponentially is by hospitals being overwhelmed, and by then it will be too late.

The financial disaster of this outbreak is enormous also. Thailand is ranked 4th in the world for financial loss in the tourism sector and that was 6 months ago, it has bled consistently since then.

So if numbers stay constant like this (both cases and deaths) can we expect that the illogical partial "lockdown" will remain in force?  Public transport, shopping malls and stores, restaurants and workplaces remain open, while schools, parks, gyms, pools and bars have to stay shut.  What if numbers stay steady like this for the next 6 months, or year?

Not being touchy. Just asked you a question. Are you going to answer. One word that's all. Yes or No. As for the worldometer it is a good overall indicator. To me it indicates that Thailand is doing to well at all in the last couple of months.

Too many variables for a simple yes or no, I'm just glad I'm here compared to many other places.

I'll give you a no on vaccines though.

I think we all know (well most of us) that the figures have been dodgy since the beggining. We don't know if the virus is out of control because there is no detail on the amount of tests being carried out and where they are being carried out. If we were told there are 100,000 tests a day in BKK then that's 2-2.5% infection rate of those tested. Lower of course would be better. If it's 10,000 tests a day thats a 20-25% infection rate of those tested and would indicate the virus is most definitly running rampant.

If I'm reading figures right Thailand lost 37.504 billion US dollars?

and that was over 6 months ago, who knows what the figure is now?

All the other countries listed there are developed nations, so the impact on Thailand is probably much worse than those and has increased, no doubt by now it will have moved up those rankings into the top 3

The CCSA are reporting five new clusters outside of #Bangkok today in factories and worker camps in Nonthaburi (13), Samut Sakhon (102), Prachuap Khiri Khan (35), Phetchaburi (69) and Trang (52). A factory in Pathum Thani has 339 new cases & one in Samut Sakhon has 123 new cases.
