Popular Post webfact
Picture: Sanook Sanook went to investigate after model aeroplanes appeared on the tops of 18 lamposts in Nong Prue district of Bang Plee, Samut Prakan. The area is close to Bangkok's main Suvarnabhumi airport. An online post claimed the structures cost 106,800 baht each and had cost the local authority 1,922,400 baht in total. The media found that the 8 meter tall posts were among 300 others utilising solar cell technology, most did not have the planes stuck on the top. Picture: Sanook Local mayor Udom Klinphuang thought they looked lovely and he disputed the 106,88 baht cost. They were only 92,000 baht each, he said, a fact that was a matter of public record. That he said represented value for money. 1 2
Popular Post RandolphGB
Great to see local authorities tightening their belts during the country's worst economic downturn in more than two decades. I wander how the company was awarded the contract to do that and what the exact numbers were.

Popular Post CharlieH
Dotted around the area, not in consecutive spots might have been better. Seriously, I would have thought they could find better things to do with 2 mil bahr ! than waste it on cosmetic toys. But then probably a friend or relative needed the order ? 8

How the hell does that expenditure get sanctioned? Crazy world ....India with many of the population without basic medicine, sanitation and essentials has a government funding probes to Mars..........first space program to find water on the moon ! yet they dont have enough toilets for their people to have a shi@@t in their own back yard.!! No wonder people drink maybe it stops you thinking! 2

Popular Post rwill
It's very common for lamp posts to have decorations on them here. Each area seems to have there own. But those are pretty gawdy. 3

Understand that, but in this case there is something interesting, in that another tambon nearby appears to have bought much the same street furniture, albeit with different adornments, and the cost is around three thousand USD each. Meanwhile in Samrong, in the same province, there are many lamp-posts that feature similar artwork but do not have the solar attachments. I wonder, as they used to say in Private Eye, if they could be related?

KhunBENQ
Not that I am against solar lamps in general. They have their use where no wiring exists. But look at this ugly forest of poles and existing wire. And then adding more poles on both sides of the road with expensive solar lamps. Finally calling it nice. It's dirt ugly! What an important road is it that needs so much lighting? Shady business, waste of money for sure. Edited June 10, 2021 by KhunBENQ
