Phuket Sandbox: Few visitors says bank's research team

The bank said that the vaccine rollout remains a key factor in general confidence with both consumer confidence and business confidence in May registering yearly lows.

A key factor that's failing and the PM has to offer apologies over.

The tests are pretty cheap and if you get a false positive you would just re-test.

Not before being carted off to qurantine first and wait another night to get fresh results

They just dont get it. Thailand is not the only beautiful holiday destination in the world.

No one will be at their monkey show for two weeks at Phuket.

No bars, no girls, restaurants closed and so on. By the way, what they still didnt get,

most of us just got two weeks holidays. And sorry, who wana stay for two weeks at the ripping off thai island no. 1 ?

Yeah, we will visit thai temples 24h with gps writsbands and masks, thats what we love Thailand for✌️

My not coming now has to do with so many required PCR tests (at my cost and each one risking me of getting a false positive and ending up with a useless 14-day hospital stay),

Bingo!

PCR tests are not standardized <period>  Without an international cycle-count standard test are an unreliable diagnostic tool.  The cycle count could be standardized to say 27 cycles which catches those with significant viral loads without tripping false positives.  But they are not.

So subjecting yourself to a PCR test with a non-standardized cycle-count could very well land you in an expensive hospital with a false positive. Or worse, field hospital.  And if you were asymptomatic before being forcefully admitted to a hospital you may very well not be before you leave. And if are traveling a a family and you pop positive, you are thrown into the hospital and your kids are thrown into quarantine with complete strangers?  And if there are unscrupulous enough people (never in Thailand?) perhaps your PCR test is given a cycle-count high enough to guarantee you spend your vacation and your $100,000 in a hospital.  Very lucrative for the hospitals, would it not be?

I would not accept the risks of taking multiple PCR tests either especially if traveling with family and children.
The world's standards bodies seriously need to set a standardized cycle-count for PCR tests and make sure they are followed by labs.

And there is the trouble with Vaccinated people.

Vaccinated people can get the virus, can be sick with the virus, can spread the virus, and can die from the virus.

They should be treated no differently to non vaccinated.

If you dont want PCR tests, dont travel.  Simple as that.

Vaccinated and non-Vaccinated should all be tested by PCR the same - to stop the spread of Covid in its many variant forms.

Be interested to see ur post fact checked!

But I agree to the PCR tests etc., a necessary hassle to see my family after 6months again and 8 months last yr.

If you are fully vaccinated then you have nothing to worry about!  You're completely safe! ????

Same same but different

Well, thinking of why most tourist come to Thailand I guess that the hookers in other countries have a good time now.

The Thai government are still shooting wildly at the moon, but they're doing it with lunatic plans and plots and schemes regarding tourists instead.

With this kind of track record, the actual moon-shot (when it happens) is certain to sail right past and crash into mars - particularly if the same kids who programmed the govt. websites have anything to do with it.

Must realise cost and resrictions are a big factor the sandbox is really  14 days quarantine and very expensive. Thailand is not really an attractive destination for holidays in the monsoon season when for Europeans there are good destinations much closer to home. Let's also see what happens in Bali when reopened.

Bali is now in midst of major COVID outbreak.

Covid or not. Who wants to go to Phuket in rainy season.

Or in any season for 14 days, for that matter

So, let's think about all the other ASQ hotels in Thailand. If you are an owner of these hotels would you be happy with the Phuket sandbox scheme if everybody will use the scheme to enter Thailand?  There would then be no need for ASQ hotels anywhere else because people will be free to travel anywhere in the country after 14 days in Phuket after being covid clear, which is the same stipulation as any of the ASQ hotels which would not be required anymore in the rest of the country. If you were one of these hotel owners I think you would be concerned about this as you would no longer be needed. Two weeks in the open and on the beaches of Phuket or two weeks stuck in a hotel room!!!!!!!!!!

That's still going ahead. They're just trying to sort out how to get the GPS tracking bracelets to work on the moon. Plus of course is there internet access on the moon so all the police that will be needed will be able to spend their time looking at their phones.

Naaa, come on! I'd say that we get at least get 131,000 of those pesky dirt bags who are a potential danger to the well being of this great nation! They'll overrun LOS before you even can say "wristband", especially now with those beautiful shiny wrist shackles and the whole entertainment sector being closed down and lying in shambles, alcohol ban and so much more attractive fun implementations that were imposed lately - be a bit more positive guys, cum on!!! ????????????

I'm staying away as I know that most of the s+x tourists coming from India will have fake vaccine certificates provided by corrupt Indian doctors.

14 days in Phuket is not that expensive.

It is certainly cheaper than a ASQ. The most expensive part previously was the girls.

Yes, vaccinated people can still get infected but the chance is reduced. Even if they do get infected the symptoms are milder and don’t require hospitalization and won’t lead to death. The ability to spread is significantly reduced (tests say as much as 90%). Vaccinated people should not be a cause of concern. They should get a PCR test pre-trip and one on arrival. All the additional tests are dumb.

Yes, any place on earth without a gps wristband and 14 days prison at empty and isolated Phuket where you are treated like a dog. And the chance to get quarantied is very high, even when your are vaccinated.

They will be lucky if 29,000 tourists come in the entire quarter. Their projection is optimistic. Just too many hurdles.

Want to attract foreign tourists? Make it easier, not harder. Every time you nitwits come up with another hurdle, Thailand moves further on down the list of countries people want to visit.

They just don't get it. No humility has set in yet. It will. You guys are in for the bruising of your lifetimes.

This may have been true previously. However, the new Delta COVID variant is throwing a spanner in the works, as it is 70% more transmissible, and it's only the RNA type vaccines which are effective against it. Just ask the UK.

What with sandboxes, quarantine, wrist trackers and so on I'll be surprised if anyone turns up. This government reminds me more and more of John O'Grady's grand cesilical elliptical ouzle bird.

Vaccinated people can get and transmit the virus. Being vaccinated is not a guarantee.  This sandbox is too restrictive as at this time, the potential risks are too great. It's a desperate attempt to generate economy. Like some Australian s have said, even if you accept the sandbox terms, you still have to quarantine for 14 days upon return.  Not worth it ????

They didn't need to consult a bank research team to get this very obvious 'few visitors' answer.  Hope they didn't spend much.

I'm based in the middle East. Plenty of Arabs would enjoy the cooler temperatures, and grey skies.
