Deputy Agricultural Minister Thammanat Prompao has been picked as the ruling Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP)’s secretary general, the party said on Friday.

The party released a list of 26 new executives at the PPRP’s meeting in Khon Kaen which saw the MP from Phayao replacing Prime Minister’s Office Minister Anucha Nakasai for the position.

“For things to move along smoothly, the secretary of the party and the leader of the party must get along and go in the same direction,” Somsak Thapsutin, justice minister and a senior member of key PPRP faction Sam Mitr, said after the meeting.

Being groomed to run for PM, this is just to much to even believe a convicted heroin smuggler can be in a position of power at all. Unbelievable.

Well don't you have to commit a crime to get into positions of power here ?

Sadly you would appear to be right.  A laughing stock worse than my own home country Thailand is becoming, and that takes a lot of doing to make it so.

just another day in cloud cuckoo land.

Where murderers & drug smugglers have their fingers firmly on the button.

What an absolute laughing stock this country is.

You and I both have our own laughing stocks leading the country ( US + UK ), but at least you got just rid of the criminal who led yours yet we choose to live where another does also.

There was more than a smack of inevitably about this .. the hints and noises emanating from within the administration recently said as much ..

Golden ( brown ) days ahead for the convicted drug trafficker then ..

And the rewards that crime bring are : Courtesy of Wikipedia

"Thamanat's parliamentary declaration of assets in August 2019 listed two wives, seven children, and a net worth of about A$42 million, including a Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Tesla, and Mercedes-Benz along with 12 Hermès and 13 Chanel handbags, luxury watches, and Thai Buddha amulets.@

There was a time when JF Kennedy was in Dallas... sometimes I hope they would do the same here with some.....

Setting examples for future generations.

We are "good people na krub!!!"

Sadly it is the sort of nepotism that is part of the national makeup and will never change .. it will matter not a jot how the elevation of a convicted narcotics trafficker within the ranks looks outside of Thailand as they tend to think they exist in a different universe when it comes to maintaining and consolidating their positions within Thai society .. Chances are he won't be dispatched to Australia on Government errands though ..

If only a few of them could be "dispatched"

on the net there is a piece of investigative journalism under "Mafia bosses, black magic and marijuana" written just 2 months ago about the very same party. Worth a fiver.

This is all the more impressive when he has spent 6 years in jail in two countries, been in the army and never had a known job.

This has the same smell to it as sewage. If you read the link he was not elected but nominated and the incumbent who was to win resigned leaving him the position. So maybe sewage actually smells better than this at second thought.

Thailand can give up now the war against drugs... soon there will be gangs ......drugs and maffia and army leading a country....

No suprises here. This is what juntus and dictators do. China, Russia, Myanmar, Nth Korea lots of African countries etc. all the same. Complete and utter maniacs bent on power and corruption. If only there was a virus to target megalomaniacs then this world would be a much better place.

Jobs for the boys, wheels within wheels... keep it in the family... you know how the system works.

My Dad warned me when I was a kid that drugs would lead to nowhere in life.

He also said the pool water would turn purple if I pee'd in it...

He lied on both counts.

No.

It's all very believable.

Oligarchical class rule, historically.
