I will soon be moving to a new place which already has what seems to be a modem and the landlord told me this is TOT fiber Optic. I will be given a password. I assume I will be able to connect wi fi to my PC and phone and Tablet?

What kind of speeds can i expect?

Anyone have experience of TOT fiber optic?

Thank u any input.

TOT Fiber have various speed options. I think their lowest speed package is 65MiB. Personally  I have 300/300MiB.

Also please keep in mind if you connect to Wifi via 2.4Ghz your speed will be a lot slower so if possible connect via 5Ghz to get the Max speed.

Is the WiFi shared or exclusive to you?

Obviously if you share with others your speed will depend upon their usage too.

You will get by far the best speeds with a wired (ethernet) connection to the router.

We have TOT fibre at 1G/500M with no problems whatever even when the family are all here with noses in phones ????

By the landlord, that sounds like shared WiFi access (as in a hotel).

Should easy handle 10 and more WiFi users with smartphone.

Hard to find applications for the smartphone that need more than 50 Mbit/s. 20 Mbit/s allows adequate youtubing, tick tocking, instagramming, video chatting etc.pp.

@homeseeker: how many units does the place have?

Thanks the helpful replies.

Itsa serviced aprt. I get a password there are about 18-24 other apartments. Seems shared access?

I pay a monthly fee for the internet. So does that mean unique or shared with others?

In the room where I want put my PC  there is a router on a table and a cable connected to it from wall see photo below; is that what Crossy means by:

You have your individual WiFi router.

But whats this little white box?

If you check the label/take a picture of the router (label underneath) and the white box it might help to understand.

@homeseeker The white box is the ONT - converts optical signal to digital.

It too sure if the revelevance,  but they are usually set in bridge mode and they just convert the signal. The settings are in the black wifi router.

That's what I had many years. Just that it was black.

So the router should not have an optical input and the incoming line is connected to the white box.

You have an individual fibre connection from TOT to the ONU and from there to your base unit that is almost certainly also supplied by TOT. Your apartment has some kind of group TOT contract. It is impossible to say what speed has been contracted for. If you know the monthly charge we can make an educated guess. But it’s not going to be clear unless you do a speed check.
FWIW my contracted speed is 20mbs however it is usually at about 110mbs since the start of 2020, our monthly fee has not increased.

TIT YMMV.

Base price for 3BB is 631Bht for 1000/100.

Most providers are the same price.

1,000bht sounds overly expensive ....... 50% markup for landlord?

That sounds very high if it’s just a network connection, if there are other services bundled it may be reasonable
