webfact
File photo//REUTERS/Athit Perawongmetha Thailand on Thursday (July 15) reported 9,186 new COVID-19 cases and 98 additional deaths over the past 24 hours. ● 9,107 new infections ● 79 prison / prison infections Thursday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 372,215 with 3,032 deaths. (Total infections since April 1: 343,352) The news comes as the National Vaccine Committee (NVC) approved Wednesday the procurement of another 120 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine for next year, but withheld its approval of a draft announcement, regarding AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured in Thailand for export, to ensure sufficient vaccine for Thais in the wake of rapid surge in infections. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-07-15 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates
Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK
Thailand on Thursday reported a new pandemic record high of 98 COVID deaths in the past day, along with 9,186 new cases, the country’s fifth 9,000+ new case day in the past week. The 98 new deaths marked an increase from the 87 reported on Wednesday. The country’s prior highest daily COVID death toll had been 91 on July 10, while Wednesday’s 87 deaths previously had been the second highest day. Included in Wednesday's 87 COVID deaths were 55 in the country's capital province of Bangkok, setting another new record death toll by surpassing Bangkok's prior high of 51 from July 10. On Thursday, the government reported another 51 new deaths in Bangkok. The 9,186 new cases reported Thursday, the country’s fifth highest daily tally, marked a modest decline from the 9,317 cases reported Wednesday, but was substantially above the 8,600+ case counts reported Monday and Tuesday. Thursday’s results, with the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus still spreading throughout Thailand, kept the country on the verge of fulfilling predictions that it will soon surpass 10,000 new COVID cases and 100 COVID deaths per day. The new COVID numbers came on the fourth day of COVID restrictions that took effect on Monday in Bangkok and nine other hard-hit provinces including an overnight 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew, restrictions on interprovincial travel and various business closures in Bangkok and five adjoining provinces. Thursday’s update included 9,107 new cases in the general population and 79 cases coming from prisons. Since the start of the pandemic, Thailand has now recorded 372,215 total COVID cases and 3,032 deaths, although some Thai doctors say the real figures, especially for cases, are likely much higher. Because of the rapid rise in new COVID cases in Thailand, the country as of Thursday was still reporting new record high levels of COVID cases hospitalized (103,056), the share of those in critical condition (3,276), and the share of those requiring ventilators to breathe (839). Thursday's tally marked the first time total COVID hospitalizations/active cases passed the 100,000 mark in Thailand. The number of COVID patients hospitalized in critical condition passed the 3,000 threshold for the first time Tuesday. And all the hospital figures -- hospitalizations, critical condition and ventilator patients -- have doubled in the past two to three+ weeks. As of Thursday, Thailand's population of hospitalized COVID patients in critical condition had increased daily for 26 days in a row. The share of those requiring ventilators to breathe had increased for 10 days in a row. ------------------------- BKK and 5 adjoining province lockdown restrictions beyond 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. daily curfew: 1. Government/private “Work From Home” encouraged 2. Public transport (buses & rail lines) close at 9 p.m. until at least 4 a.m. 3. Department store, shopping center, and community mall shops closed, except for… 4. Within malls and centers, the following can open until 8 p.m.: supermarkets, takeout food outlets, banks & financial institutions, pharmacies, building supplies, postage/parcel & mobile phone related shops. 5. No sit-down dining allowed. Takeout food & beverage service allowed till 8 p.m. 6. Convenience stores & night markets close 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. 7. Popular Post Bkk Brian
I wonder how the PM is feeling now that the Thailand wide super spreader event he caused when locking down the construction sites in Bangkok is showing its full and deadly force. 9,186 positive cases today with 79 of those from prisons, 98 deaths, heading for the awful triple figures soon. There are now only 10 per cent of these beds vacant,” said Dr Korakrit Limsommut, director of the ministry’s Health Administration Division. “For patients in the yellow group, there are [only] 415 vacant beds, plus some 449 beds available in hospital isolation rooms. Popular Post dinsdale
Triple figure daily deaths now looking certain. Infections still hovering around 9K. This I would say is a direct correlation to testing. Watched a news story today about growing concerns in Myanmar. 7000 infections and 100+ deaths. Comment was numbers are certainly much higher due to very low testing numbers. Again if Thailand was testing even adequately testing numbers would be released to show how good they are. The fact that testing numbers are not released can only mean that numbers are less than adequate. I would postulate very much less than adequate hence as everyone knows numbers here are way higher. I’ll give you an example: if a patient’s doctor directs them to go to the hospital, there is a good chance that the doctor doesn’t have admitting privileges at a hospital with beds available. There isn’t a good system for the doctor to get the patient into another hospital, especially if available beds are in a hospital far away. So, the patient has to wait.

I think a rise to 150 deaths a day was certain once cases went from 3k to 9k. Cases triple, pretty much a statistical certainty that deaths also do. So the next couple of weeks will be harrowing in that respect. 2

Also at some point these positive cases as recorded by hospitals will get to a self limiting level. Perhaps already there. When that happens the # of positive cases will not tell us much (perhaps never did). Many already looking at ICU and Ventilators numbers.

Popular Post ThailandRyan
Wondering if the new Mass testing in communities planned to start in Bangkok will show an uptick and push the numbers over 10k. I also wonder why they are not testing en-mass elsewhere, sure BKK has clusters, but many of the folks that were scheduled for being locked in were able to flee to the outer provinces. I mean why else are numbers in other places climbing as well, just like in Chonburi, or Trat, or Hua Hin
