PHUKET: Phuket City Police together with officers of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested 27 gamblers including one “local politician” in a resort on Koh Sirey in Rassada yesterday (July 17).

 

Under the command of Deputy Commissioner of the CIB Pol Maj Gen Jiraphop Phuridet and Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Pornsak Nuannu, the arrest was led by Maj Pittaya Thanawut of the CIB and Lt Col Sathit Nurit of the Phuket City Police.  

 

Officers went to the sea-side resort and found 27 men and women playing baccarat. The gamblers were shocked and tried to flee but failed to do so.

My guess is that the arrested 'local politician' has upset somebody

Another Hi-so bust, or people who believe restrictions do not apply to them ...........LOL

As a semi retired person with reasonably significant finances, I have found myself spending more time at a casino wasting time on Slot machines than I ever would have imagined.  I got a lot of jackpots, but often just ended up giving the money back over time, and along the way being stuck with a tax bill comes the end of the year. I got off cheap and decided I don't get any real satisfaction out of it.  I will get back to my long nature walks, getting in shape to run again, swimming in the clear Florida beaches, and finding other things to occupy my time, including buying and fixing up my retirement home.  I would prefer to be killing time in Thailand 6 months of each year which was always my plan, but now really will wait a bit to see how things settle out.

 

  I sit in the casino and watch the majority of people there that have no business being there. Either young kids hanging out, 50 % obese people spending their small blue collar or service job 400 USD paychecks.  No future planning, no investing etc. 

 

  A night out with friends I can understand.  But just constantly contributing to a losing proposition? No thanks. 

Is that the "kids table"?

 

 

No nationalities mentioned, couldn't they find a foreigner to blame this on?

Lucky for me the text explained the situation. When I first saw the OP photo I thought it was a queue for the toilets in a store.

Looking at the equipment (table, baize layout, card holders, chip tray) that is a very professional setup and all of that gear would have been imported from the USA or Europe. This was not a tinpot back-street operation.

 

(Of course, in my day we didn’t need a calculator to work out the vigorish!)

If you are gonna transmit covid, do it in the approved ways of the bts and mrt systems, and the dirty market shopping. 

was the politician gambling with his own money? or using proceeds from his position..? This is an important point that the voters in his territory deserve to know..
