BANGKOK (NNT) - The Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) has signed a contract with Zuellig Pharma Thailand to purchase 5 million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, which are all expected to arrive before the end of the first quarter of 2022.

GPO director-general Dr Witoon Danwiboon said the Thai Red Cross Society, and all hospitals who wish to use the Moderna vaccine, have paid the full amount for the doses they have been allotted. The GPO, in turn, has paid in full to make sure that the vaccine arrives on time.

He said the GPO hopes that the Moderna vaccine, which is among the top alternative COVID-19 vaccine choices in Thailand, will be an alternative for Thai people who wish to protect themselves against COVID-19 and will prevent the virus from spreading, contributing to the goal of overcoming this crisis together.

Meanwhile, the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said the first batch of 1.5 million doses of Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, donated by the United States, will be administered to four groups as planned, particularly medical personnel and health workers as a booster dose and adults aged over 60.

????

Not what you would call a rush order.  However at this point, not a surprise.

Thanks for that Doc good to know and maybe he is alluding to the fact some of the present vaccines they have bought/talked about/ordered aint that good against existing and Delta variant

Unfortunately price will stop the vast majority of the population and the most vulnerable from having that option, still a win for the good folk who want a trip to Dubai for a spot of shopping....

Not to be outdone, Australia, with a population of 25 million, just secured 85 million booster doses of Pfizer vaccine for next year.

"Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has confirmed Australia has secured 85 million Pfizer vaccines as booster shots that will start next year.

Delivery will begin in the first quarter of 2022 and enable booster coverage throughout the year.

"This virus is not going away," Mr Frydenberg told Sky News' Sunday Agenda program.

"There is one ticket out of this crisis and that's vaccinations.""

Yesterday, it was the Thai FDA signing a contract wit ZP Therapeutics.

Today, its the GPO signing a contract with Zuellig Pharma Thailand.

Yes, I know ZP Therapeutics is a a part of Zuellig Pharma.

Publishing the contract, fat chance, would go a long way towards transparency.

By the time the skims are finished on this one there will be like three doses left. Wives, GFs, mothers, children are all hammering on their man with position to get them a good vaccine. What choice does he have?

Signing this contract has been on the news at least half a dozen times. I wished Moderna or Zuellig would confirm that they've actually signed it - and what the delivery schedule is.

Can't do that, national security reasons...

Some might say that, again, a western country is vaccine hoarding; thereby denying others who are perhaps in more need.....

Those in more needy non western countries, are unable to place an order for vaccine, seems implausible. Likewise sellers being unwilling to sell to more needy non western countries, equally as implausible.

Money looks the same no matter where it comes from.

October thru March now for Moderna.  And Thai Red Cross/Royal Thai Army gets first dibs.  What else can go wrong for those prepaid at the private hospitals?

That's 8 months away... hope the wait is worth it.

It seems as if the tactic is to run this story with variations in the title to make it seem that more and more are being ordered.

And then i go to NNT and read:

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Thai Red Cross Society (TRCS) has reached a deal with the local importer of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to procure the second-generation of its vaccine next year.

This is separate from the Privates request ,that's suppose to start in October, right  ?

I'm calling the Private tomorrow to find out what's going on  with the promise that it would come Oct- Dec.

Called today and spoke to the CSR at the Private in Udon  she confirmed that the Govt is the determining factor in when the Mvacc hits their hospital !

But  we are number sixteen on the list, to get it !

I don't know if that's before or after the military gets theirs  !

So, are they quietly dropping that October due date and hoping that no-one will notice?

Also, haven't various hospitals pre-sold 10 million doses?  This is going to get interesting!

Ive heard over 9 million doses have been pre-sold.  Each hospital that participed will get 10,000 doses.  If that hospital sold more than 10,000 doses they'll have to prioritize who gets the vaccine, leaving many without any vaccine.

I expect as things get worse the government might just take them for emergency purposes.  Leaving everyone who bought one out in the cold.
