As many as 3,000 Thai minors catching COVID-19 every day

Between 2,000 and 3,000 under 18 year olds are now getting infected with COVID-19 every day, compared to just 366 per week in the first three months of this year, according to Dr. Somsak Akkasilp, director general of Thailand’s Medical Services Department.

New daily infections, across all age groups in the country, currently average about 20,000.

He attributed the surge of infections among minors to increased infections in families, as he cited findings by the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health showing that most of the severe cases among youngsters have genetic diseases, such as brain or heart disease, or are bed-ridden, which require them to be treated in general hospitals, exposing them to greater risk of infection.

The virus just wants to survive and propagate.

This is the basic strategy and "purpose" of life, even though a virus might not necessarily be considered to be a living organism.

The purpose of life is to pass on genetic material, and to adapt by changing in the most advantageous way in order to survive.

The virus is no better nor any worse than any other part of life, even though the virus is more like a particle than anything else.

We need more effective vaccines here, and it really does not matter how we get them, and we should not be thinking about saving face.

We just need them for our children, and for us, and for the economy.

Unfortunately, if we had been much more proactive, 15 years ago, about preparing ourselves for the pandemic which we knew was coming, then things would be far easier for us, now.

Let's just now TRIPLE our efforts, and donate, DONATE, money and vaccines....WORLD WIDE.

We must hang together, and conquer through collective action, or we shall surely hang collectively, as well as economically.

As a teacher working with very young children in a school that insists on mask wearing, I can assure you this doesn’t happen in schools where teachers understand the vital importance of face to face learning and the need to reassure parents there children are kept as safe as humanly possible.

We have yet to record a case of covid that emanated from our school.

Your school is open now? Where?

The school I am working at follows protocols recommended worldwide in schools.

It is not in Thailand but even if it was I wouldn’t name it in a forum.

@Blumpie

The poster I responded to showed a picture of a child that was in all probability not Thai. Neither was their post about Thai schools.

The meme showed a child saying they had swapped their mask,

I basically pointed out this is unlikely if a school has the correct protocols in place and the staff care enough to enforce them.

I am in contact with friends who still work in my former school in Thailand and they are preparing protocols that are the same as my current employer is following.

I have not quoted your post due to your abusive, baiting opening.

Well I've heard that the procedures being followed at schools are rather horrifying.  They don't even have hand sanitization.  Both on the ground and on this forum.

So I do hope that you see why your version of truth is far from what is really truly going on.

It's nice to hear that your old school is following protocols but this is not the norm.

So child infection rates have increased because to date they have largely been excluded from any vaccination programme... I hope they remember that when it comes to voting time and give the parents some advice on what to do.

If you have 2,000 every day catching it their parents will catch it and the whole house.  That's 60000 per month then add that into every household.  How many live there?

I don't see any way that they can control this.

Close schools?

No. Vaccinate people. (See UK for further confirmation).

Actually the UK sort of supports both perspectives.....

Firstly schools can be closed very quickly, getting everyone vaccinated takes some time, and more people die in the interim.

In the UK the rapid fall in new infections from 50,000/day to 20.000  in mid-July, was attributed to schools closing for the summer break, and of course the associated reduced testing level as tests in schools were being done.

If schools are truly a major contributor to infections (which appears logical), then measures should be taken while vaccination catches up.

That's true.  Thai schools have been closed for many months now (my son's since April).  I just wish there was an effective vaccination program, so that they can reopen.

It must be worrying to see your kid losing out on those special learning years. Selfishly I feel I am wasting my own few remaining later years!

Yes, but as he's only 6, I think the learning can be caught up with.  What worries me more is that he's hardly left our small condo since April and has had almost no interaction or socialisation with other kids, or even other people.  Limiting screen time is thankless and difficult as I have to go out to work, so I now have a Roblox/YouTube addict as a son!
