Amid a sluggish state COVID-19 vaccine rollout, Thailand’s Thammasat University is ready to procure additional COVID-19 vaccines from abroad, to give members of the public and private and public organizations more options.

Director of Thammasat University Hospital Dr. Paruhat Tor-udom said on Tuesday that the university’s council has decided to invoke regulations, pertaining to the provision of medical and health services by the university to procure vaccines and related medication, adding that the decision will be published in the Royal Gazette.

This will make Thammasat University the sixth agency legally permitted to procure COVID-19 vaccines, in addition to the Disease Control Department, the Government Pharmaceutical Organization, the Thai Red Cross Society, the Chulabhorn Royal Academy and the National Vaccine Institute.

o, that one also behind back of anutin and prayuth - wait how can they spin it.

Which of the Big Persons were involved this time?

So private entities can import independently.

That's exactly what private hospitals wanted to do since the end of the last year, but were stopped by the red tape from the government, who wanted only the locally made AZ and some browned enveloped sinovac on top.

Where I can sing up (that on top of 10 some other places I have already signed)? I just hope price won't be 888b or 777b as for sinopharm, which did take into account some numerology skills at this revered academic institution

Interesting nugget.

What is the legal process for allowing an entity to procure COVID-19 vaccines?

And why are private organizations prevented from ordering vaccines?

Amazing thailand.

Probably the same legal process that allowed Prayuth to stop being one of the general of the government, and move into Bkk to be the government?

Can't say if Thammasat get the tanks and guns, without this will be a short lived rebellion against the ruling power.

So will Thammasat join the Red Cross with their interesting model of acquiring vaccines using tax payers money and then selling some of it on for profit? (sometimes selling it to other tax payer funded entities so tax payers can pay for the same vaccine twice) or will they be using their own funds?

If anyone has a better understanding of the Red Cross model where they are not making a profit i would welcome clarification.

Possibly because as emergency use only and an expiramental drug they can only be sold to another Government. When the US FDA gives full use approval then they can be sold on the open market as a general use drug and ordered like Amoxicillan, Tylenol or Ibuprofen.  Pfizer expects to be given full approval in a few weeks.
