Popular Post webfact
By Goong Nang(GN) Pattaya – Pattaya Beach is recovering afer significant damage following heavy rains over the past weekend, especially on Friday (August 27th) which caused flooding across the city. First, a recap of Friday’s rain in Pattaya. Rain also fell throughout the weekend, although the hardest hit portion was on Friday morning. Water had flowed from higher areas in town to drain onto Pattaya beach and then into the sea. Portions of the beach were washed away, causing numerous ditches and holes on the sand. A video is also attached showing the repair work being done following this weekend’s rains. Popular Post Benmart
I'm sure that the unemployed, destitute, homeless and struggling businesses will take great comfort in seeing money spend on repairing beaches without people, which in all likelihood, will again be washed out to sea.

Popular Post Scrotobike
Pattaya sand box has been postponed - they keep loosing the sand. Nature shows the way, it creates run off channels in the beach - how about leaving these channels alone or even possibly applying some engineering at these sites to help nature? Ah less opportunity for skimming off the top, middle and bottom. A repeating brown envelope, hope they recycle the old envelopes as they are used often? 2 1

Andycoops
What's the point, nobody's on the beach as there is no one there. The Monsoon is just starting so it's going to be the same old story for the next 3 months. Oh, sorry just realised that the contractor is obviously a business run by someone in city hall. Nice.

Yet, by the end of the day, they need brushing again. I cut the grass every Wednesday, with full knowledge that I'll just have to do it again next week. Maintaining beaches in a city environment is much the same, and all over the world. Just a cost of doing business. Perhaps you don't remember when there was no piped water ( due to drought ) and trucks had to fill hotel tanks. It'll just be another opportunity for someone with the right connections and a fleet of water tankers to make a pile of cash.

In any case, water infrastructure will have to be improved in this so called "World Class Tourist Destination." Do you see it happening? IMO corruption is always involved in anything to do with Pattaya, but it's a stretch to believe that all of the hotel owners would allow minions to turn off the taps. IMO the whole "make Pattaya a world class tourist destination" thing is never going to happen because everything they touch turns to dross, as it's done as cheaply as possible, for the usual reasons. IMO same reason Swampy is a lemon instead of something as good as Changi.

IMO same reason Swampy is a lemon instead of something as good as Changi. No argument from me. Meanwhile, in neighbouring Vietnam, they are building record breaking tourism infrastructure. Eg: cable cars. No arguing with speed boat mafia. Beach chairs and umbrellas are free, so no beach mafia. Check out the drink prices in the video - local beer 20,000 VND which is 28 baht, Tiger beer is 35,000 VND which is 50 baht, so no price gouging. Free hammocks. Vietnam has corruption, but they get the job done. Thailand has corruption, but the job doesn't get done, and the tourists have to deal with corruption at every turn on their holiday. How can Thailand compete in the future? Edited September 10, 2021 by Leaver
