Launched in 1995, the original Chang was approx 6.4% in a brown bottle. Was a wonderful, strong, bitter brew. Had a local nickname of "Demon Brew". ????

In 2015 ThaiBev ruined it by rebranding it as Chang Classic...the crappy swill available now, in the green bottle, and approx 5-5.5% alcohol. ????

How many remember "Cathouse", Nana Plaza.  4pm to 8pm, all the brown bottle Chang you could drink: B100 (2002-2006)

They don't make Chang original anymore

Yes they do. They just changed the percentage of alcohol and adjusted the recipe. Or, are you trying to say they are selling fake Chang?

That would not be the Chang original , that would be the Chang Classic  , different Chang

Good stuff. Many 7-11 have it now, as well as Villa Market, Food Land and some others.

Has everyone forgotten Kloster. The alternative to Singha back in the day.

Not at all.  Kloster was a good beer as was Amarit.  Wish they were still around.

Beer nostalgia.

Back in the day, Singha was 6%. We also had Amarit and Kloster then, too, but I think they were both 5%. The beers of a bygone Thailand.

Or the days when one could have Beer Lao delivered by the case to your rural existence.

The Thai authorities quickly put a stop to that, as the ever popular beer was cutting into their monopoly profiteering.

Chang Classic is the modified tweak on the Chang original [Rice Beer].

We'll be remembering, during the heyday of Chang original - the marketing of "Chang Export". Which was along the lines of a better quality European type and a price to match.

Chang Export can still be found in the usual locales, but's it's not the same brew. Which shouldn't surprise anyone.

The saving grace for locally brewed Thai beer, are the astounding number of small/independent craft beers that have paved their way onto the market of the last 10-12 years. The catch, though, still exist that one can only obtain these domestic micro-brews at one's favourite pub/bar - as they're not allowed to sell their ware on the commercial market. The Thai monopoly protection racket at work......

Hope springs eternal, as of late [the last year or two], a handful of excellent locally made craft beers have been granted permission to sell their lovely elixirs in the general commercial markets.
