What's happened to their friends from China.. They dont rate a mention.. Oh, I forgot, all expenses are paid in the motherland.. No baht input so of no value even though  they are relatives!

Xi says they can't come out to play.

  • The poor girls are going to hate having to choose between Crazy loudmouth Ivan, or Pardeep and his 4 friends.

  • Yep, that´s right. There you have all super spenders. Rupee and Rubel is really currencies to put your trust in.

  • So they'll be given a choice, it's a free Chicken Tikka or a Rye bread with fried sauerkraut at a restaurant near your hotel.

How nice for people living there Just what the doctor ordered. More of that please

The Russians at least used to spend their money at normal places, like bars, restaurants, small hotels, shops, etc.  So they will help the economy a bit.

Indians don't spend money at any of those places, and just take up space, crowding stood a girl or standing skin close to others trying to go about their business.

Chinese aren't coming back this year.

Thailand failed to be attractive to other groups or find another source of revenue.

Either way, still no good here.

I am sure the club and bar owners are rubbing their hands In glee

Thinking of all  the Indian guys spending their well earned ????

On alcohol and girls

I remain perplexed on how they 'focus' on a nationality or two.

Language training for bar girls and 7-11 staff?

when did you see a Russian or indian spending..perhaps a 7/11 on the booze run or a girl off beach road for mister Singh and his entire male family and friends

For the Indians, will Pattaya be replacing pole dancing with this:-

What happens if no Indians and Russians come?

Bonkers

I guess they look at what were the rising tourist markets in Pattaya before the pandemic.  Putting the Chinese to one side, the Indians were certainly making up a good proportion of new tourists as they are in many parts of the world now.  It's all about new money and the Indians and Chinese are at the forefront of that.  Russian tourists in Pattaya  also have a strong presence and have done for some time.  So I think there is sense in the PBTA's  plans.

People have different reasons for living in Pattaya.  Some have bought property there and are bringing up family and some are there for the decadence.  Whatever their reasons, they do understand (I am sure) that Pattaya is a party town rather than a family destination and therefore will attract tourists that reflects that.

Tourists come in all sorts of shapes and sizes in Thailand and the ones rushing to Pattaya will likely have a different agenda to those heading up to places like Chiang Mai or Sukhothai.  Horses for courses, as they say!

That will keep the GoGo bars empty that's for sure.

Rye bread and pickled cabbage are found across Europe, he used the German name is all.

Tikka is about as English as the Taj Mahal. Maybe you had too much IPA this afternoon?

Whut? The baht is what Thailand use, what it converts from is irrelevant. Also Both those nations have several globally renowned oligarchs. Those titans won't berth their boats at bali hai this week, but it's the sheer numbers from these places are what the hapless TAT are hoping for.

Wrong - Have you been to India? There is a similar Bangladesh dish. Not Indian at all.

Wrong he said did not say pickled cabbage - he said Sauerkraut which was is specific to Germany. If you want to go on about pickled cabbage then this was invented by the Chinese

If you are going to pick at my post - get your facts right

Another bet I'm making is that since Xi has put Macau on Notice, Thailand would be very foolish indeed not to U turn on gambling, at least at the high roller level. I'm taking bets now, this will be my easiest money ever!

Wow... sometimes threads drift a little off topic but this is as far as it can go!

Loads of either hardly bothers me as I don't frequent the places they go.

i remember the good ole days where it was UK, US, Oz, kiwis spending up big and supporting the pattaya economy, walking street would be just nothing but Falang whoremongers.

Different story with the 2 nationality's mentioned here

Its very easy to post the same old rhetoric, especially if your only experience of Pattaya is a bar stool in soi sexpat, or you are posting from mums basement.

Maybe try visiting one of the massive Indian nightclubs on walking st, visit a couple of the tourist attractions like nongnooch gardens or Tiger parks etc, Indians are half their business. Maybe take a walk around the southern end of 2nd road, where every 2nd restaurant,/hotel is Indian.

Go and visit a couple of the massive, all inclusive, self contained resorts in wongamat or naklua.

The tired old observations of Thai tourism, based on who is sitting on the barstool next to you, just makes people look stupid.

Unless the places they normally go to are closed, and then they go to the places you go to.

When I first started coming here it was a different crowd, A lot of Germans who were the rich boys of Europe, and quite a lot of UK offshore/Middle East workers on vacation.

Would someone on here be able to give an accurate summary and timeline of which countries overseas tourists visited Pattaya since it's inception as a tourist destination starting with potentially the Americans in Vietnam/American war days through to today? ................

Depends who writes the history. There are plenty of 'history of pattaya" articles on the internet.

You can find articles that talk about a history of being a Thai destination going back before the Vietnam war. Others will push the sex tourism narrative, often because it justifies their 2 week sex tourism holiday.

Each group of people that visit Pattaya, (especially western tourists) tend to push a narrative that they are the major visitors, built Pattaya etc.

Key, of course, but nice to have people's take on it.........................

India doesn't have tiger parks, Nong Nooch style gardens or big night clubs?

Seems strange to me to go all the way to Thailand just to eat Indian food, see tigers or dance in a nightclub. Surely there must be more than that?

LOL. I doubt any used "history" to justify a 2 week bonk fest.

Seems to me that many overlook the Scandinavian presence in Pattaya, perhaps because they tended to remain in "their" area up in Naklua. Also loads of Arabs, but again somewhat isolated in Little Arabia.

Then there are all those that only venture out from their all inclusive resorts except by bus on excursions.

None of the above were found lurking in significant numbers on Walking Street, IN MY OPINION.

In addition to the above, boat trips to the islands, Sanctuary of Truth, Legend Siam, 2 big water parks, Dolphinarium and the aquarium, Silver Lake, Terminal 21, beachfront Thai restaurants, lots of nice golf courses, and more.  My partner and I used to live at a beachfront condo in Wong Amat and a nice boutique hotel went up next door.  It had a steady stream of Indian and other visitors year-round.  Some were in small tour groups and others were traveling on their own.  The beach there is quite nice and that was also an attraction.
