An Irish ex-pat and his wife have been arrested in Sattahip after allegedly offering to sell cheap iPhones and iPads online and not sending the products after payments were made. The damage is currently estimated at 500,000 baht, according to Consumer Protection Police familiar with the case.

Colonel Neti Wongkularp from the Consumer Protection Police (CPP) told the associated Thai press, “We have arrested Ms. Kotchawan, 36, and Mr. Darragh, 43, an Irish national at a house in Sattahip earlier this week.”

“Both suspects are facing multiple charges of defrauding the public including consumer fraud and entering false computer data.” Colonel Neti stated.

Quite complex and sophisticated man-in-the-middle m.o. and went through great lengths to obfuscate the payment and delivery trail by using gold shops' bank accounts and untraceable drop addresses. So much premeditation there which will inevitably reflect on their eventual sentence. Last haul was probably a controlled delivery.

I wonder if it’s the guy who was selling iPhones and iPads , somehow always managed to steal peoples FB accounts or duplicate . If that’s the case , it’s a lot more than 500000, I personally know people who lost about 100000 to him

Five hundred thou. over a year hardly seems worth the hassle and the risk; legitimate ways to make that much, even English teaching; guess the real figure is a lot higher.

This scam like most scams work because people are gullible, ignorant and greedy. Con artists should of course be punished but the people who fall for their scams have only themselves to blame.
