Opinion: Prayut’s “Livestock Sandbox” nothing but lame attempt to garner local popularity

This week Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha introduced a “Livestock Sandbox” scheme for Thai farmers to curb the spread of animal diseases among livestock such as cattle, buffaloes, and pigs.

 

The scheme was deliberately named after the Phuket Sandbox, the country’s pilot plan to reopen for vaccinated foreign tourists, with the same goal of preventing the outbreak from damaging livelihoods and the economy.

 

What it means is not flying all the cows in Thailand to the Sandbox area but making sure healthy animals are grouped together by province in a limited area and screened regularly to stop the spread of livestock disease.

So all the "thinking" heads of the powers that be can't come with a suitable terms to describe a quarantined cattle but to use the worn out term of Sandbox, how about animal-box or cattle box huh? good names no?...

But as long as they're profitable, with an element of control, for him and his circle then it's all good.

I feel sorry for the cattle already, it failed in Phuket no reason to think the bovine equivalent will be any different. ????

"Sandboxes for livestock" = Additional costs and regulations for farmers; additional cost for consumers.

"Sustainable" = More wealth for the wealthy; more austerity for the commoners.

Tell me truthfully has it been profitable after you take away all of the startup costs needed to vaccinate and test and put things in place.

I will add "Sandbox" to my lexicon of local political terminology, along with "Crackdown", "Hub" etc.
