A ban on the sale of alcoholic drinks has been introduced in Thailand’s eastern province of Chanthaburi, from today (Thursday) until the end of the month, to contain the spread of COVID-19 infections, which are being blamed on social gatherings.

The liquor sale ban was issued by the provincial governor, Suthee Thongyam. It is applicable to shopping malls, department stores, convenience stores, community malls, groceries, and eateries.

In the order, the governor said that COVID-19 infections in the province continue to increase with no sign of slowing, adding that most of the new infections occurred at social gatherings and at workplaces, homes, or public venues where people usually drink.

Bars are closed, so why the ban on alcohol sales which you can purchase safely and consume at home?

Because this is not about public health, it's about control.  Those who want unlimited power over the populace will ride the crest of the Covid wave as long as possible.  Prohibitions are a common tactics of the power elite.  It shows the commoners who is in charge.  It makes the commoners compliant.  "Do as we say and will give a little freedom back to you if you're good little plebs.  Obey!"

6 of us are eating and will be having a glass or two of Red following a beer or two right opposite one of those police box things where the BiB come outside for a smoke and where the nicked worn out scootes lay.

The chap who owns the restaurant must be a pal of plod. We do this several times a year.

Thats the same places where people eat, are they going to ban food too?? LOL

So where will the cops buy their booze ? Long live the Ma & Pa shops ????

Where is the scientific research to support this? Seems to be an uneducated, knee jerk response, requiring no effort, no accountability, no measurable results and no reasoning that would hold up to independent study.

Yes I went to the local store and convinced her to sell me some. Unfortunately when she runs out the resupply wont come. But then again I know someone working near the border with Sa Kaeo, could always get some that way. I agree just sheer bastardry.

Take an alcohol break.  Try Kratom.  ????

Virtue signalling...

Other governors will join and will mimic this decision.

Some will try to overdo.

Because that's the name of game here in Thailand.

Nothing worse than a drunk virus that will go home with anyone.
