Thailand is open – a travel update from the tourism authority of Thailand

Perhaps Thailand should tell the Thai embassy in the UK to open up so that people that want to come here can get visas. My friend has been trying but they are closed last I heard.

Perhaps you should tell your friend that UK citizens do not need a visa, unless they are planning a long stay.

Whats going to happen next year sometime when they really do fully open? Will they say we were only kidding ya before..........

By the attitude of many of the consulates and embassies, in issuing COE, Thailand is far from being open in any kind of a form.

What people don't want to hear, after booking plane tickets and hotels, etc. and not getting COE in time to make it to the flight is "So what, then go and book another flight". If Thailand is really desperate for foreign arrivals, they really need to rethink the workload they are putting on the staff at the embassies and consulates in handling these papers, as well as their attitude adjustments.

Honestly, if I was a tourist wanting to go for a vacation in Thailand during the winter and got that kind of response, I'd cancel my hotel bookings and flights, go somewhere else and scratch Thailand off the list of countries ever to visit again.

No, they won’t say anything, as they will still be open.

You missed the "fully open" statement I made, ie without all the restrictions that are currently in place

While it's good news, note that visitors from the UK made up about 2.5% of all visitors to the Kingdom in 2019. (Ministry of Tourism and Sports figures). Removing Thailand from the Red list for the UK is a step in the right direction, not a game changer.

Stop the cowardice! Man up! Open the country. Thailand is not open, when the COE is still required, as well as how many other requirements? The Thais are the true zombies now. Not the foreigners. Phuket had over 10,000 cases of covid, yet only 1% were from foreigners.

Admit that foreigners are not zombies. Stop the utter nonsense, fear mongering, xenophobia, and tripe.

The longer Thailand waits, the more devastation to tourism, and the harder it will be to get the tourists back. Act like real adults, please.

It is my belief ( right or wrong ) , that Travel Insurance Companies will not issue any form of Travel Insurance to a Country that is under an Emergency Decree.

Who would travel without any Insurance, specially in these uncertain times.

Without the bars open and no booze curious asks why would you come here?

Hmm.... Dont be rushing to buy tickets to Thailand I suggest

Sure yes, it is open for people who do not need to stay up late, do not need or have to go to bars and drink, and those with common sense who realize wearing a mask may actually do some good.

I hardly drink nor stay up late. Nor do i need a beer at 8 am.  You missed the point.  The entire COE process and expense related to getting permission to to go to Thailand makes TAT rejoicing  a farce.  As a fully vaccinated PLUS Pfizer booster i STILL wear masks everywhere.. commonsensical yes. But,  i dont make assumptions like you do about all arrivals  with a stroke of a brush

Erm……….bit of a long shot but could it be remotely possible that not everyone drinks alcohol.

And until those who are imposing these unnecessary controls lift them, the Thai Tourism has a long, long way to  go to get anywhere near the previous normal.  Yes, have testing before arrival and on arrival, but why 7 days quarantine in selected hotels, unless there is an ulterior motiff?

A holiday in the Isle of Wight would be preferable for these people.

It is not Thailand that is open. Phuket is open. But it's not a holiday as there's nothing to do.

"Open" means no quarantine and no special foreigner-only i suranné.

"Open" means pubs and restaurants are open.

Saying Thailand is open when it isn’t means potential tourists will find they've wasted their time checking it out and will simply vow never to look at Thailand again.

The TAT is supported and encouraged by the govt. Uttering these blatantly false statements discredits the kingdom. Id stop doing that if I were you.

Very misleading article Thailand is only partially open . When they stop all these stupid quarantine restrictions and open up the country fully allowing bars and entertainment to reopen and scrap the stupid curfew then and only then will they see the airports busy now October if there no careful they are going to miss out on the peak season Christmas and New Year that is where the money is made and it’s only 8 weeks away .

TUI, the biggest travel agent in Scandinavia yesterday cancelled all their flights to Thailand for this coming high season. Just too complicated and expensive to get all those crazy documents that you need for be able to enter the country.

The Thai authorities need to get rid of the quarantine measures

Then open up restaurants serving alcohol

Until then Tourists will not come in big numbers

Bars and clubs will no doubt be last on the list to open

But tourists who still come can still enjoy the sights beaches Temples and so on ????

This Thai government seems more interested in Tourism money then beating Covid. So if that's the case then end the quarantine for fully vaccinated international arrivals with negative test. Their are so many people that want to come here and spend money but nobody wants to be locked in a room for 7 days. Lift the useless alcohol restrictions

Copied and pasted from the Gov. U.K. Website today,

The FCDO advise against all but essential travel to the whole of Thailand based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks.

I’m flying Finnair to U.K. on 27th but can’t find out if I need a PCR to board or not

“After much speculation this week we are so happy to see Thailand come off the UK’s travel red list. It’s a very timely boost for Thailand’s travel industry. We’re heading into peak season with our best weather ahead, particularly along the Andaman coast and insights from our UK tour operators tells us there is huge interest in travel to Thailand and 1,000’s of postponed holidays set to be rebooked both for immediate winter sun getaways and departures in 2022. Today’s announcement gives travellers the much-needed confidence to (re)make travel plans” said Ms. Chiravadee Khunsub, director of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), UK & Ireland.

Isn't this 'off the Red List' only for travellers going INTO UK from Thailand and nothing to do with people coming INTO Thailand for holidays, or any use to expats here who want to go to UK for a visit, and come back to their home here.

Maybe I didn’t not spend much thought on the headline and article, but the point was Thailand was taken off the UK red list, not the other way around.  Then, this article leads to convey citizens from the UK will come to Thailand.  I’m confused, does Thailand still not require COE and Quarentine?  Why would anyone from the UK (without any other reason for non-tourist…I.e. Family) now, want to come?  Please enlighten me… I’ll read again….  I think I missed something.

It would be helpful if Thai consulates could update their websites:

And, from recent experience, if you contact TAT and ask them for information or ask them who to contact about travel inside Thailand on arrival from abroad, they don't know.

After 2 days of waiting they sent a facebook message confirming they don't know and suggested I call the Thai embassy in my departure country and ask them who to contact.

I can't believe they don't know which agency to contact inside Thailand for this info.

Very poor service indeed.

I would certainly not take this at face value, and would check with the airline well before going to check-in. It would be a happy surprise to find that pre-departure tests were no longer required for UK bound flights.

Try Hong Kong...21 days quarantine for travelers from many countries, including Thailand, and only those with a HK ID.

And have the UK tour operators been informed that all the bars are still closed, and even in most restaurants, their customers will not  be able to have a glass of wine with their meal?

Funny how the TAT keeping harping on about Phuket Sandbox being a great success. There has been a daily average of ~400 people since 1st July, majority of whom are returnees, not real tourists... TAT trying to justify their huge budget, salaries no doubt with their daily verbal diarrhea..
