Popular Post HappyGoLuckyLife
This is not meant to be a flame post. Looking for serious answers. As a recent member to the forums, I've been reading through the various threads. There's a diverse group here. I can say that for sure. However I have a question for members, who at least on the surface come off as really hating their lives in living in Thailand. I am not sure if this has been pre pandemic, or it's been that way for a while. But I really want to know, if Thailand is as bad, anti-farang, dangerous, miserable (insert adjective here) place to be, then why are you still here? What makes you stay in spite of feeling such misery. I am only trying to understand where it all went to hell for some of you. Popular Post Thaiwrath
Climate and cost of living, the same 2 reasons I moved here. Just because people live here, it doesn't mean they have to love everything about the place. I despise the current government, but I try not to let it affect me too much, and hope that once these clowns are voted, or thrown, out, the whole country will be happier. 32 1

That's one thing I don't get. Life is too short. And since when don't know when our timecard is punched, it could be shorter than what we think. I wish we all can leave each moment as if it were our last. Because one day, it just might be our last. Popular Post bkk6060
Not everyone complains but it seems consistent with people from places known as "a country of complainers". Many negative, low money and depressed with no personal future they seem to think Thailand owes them something. Good sentiment, but the government does not really affect me. Before I thought it did but it did not. I have the same anti government feelings for the current ones as their PTP counterparts. All of them are incompetent and in it for the money. Once you realize that you will see the similarities between the two. It stopped me from stressing about who is in power knowing the next mob will be stealing lying and incompetent no matter who they are. Only things that influence me are the actions of governments that directly hit me. 16

With that, we make best do with what we have and appreciate having even that. I would have to say that is the one thing Thailand has taught me more so than anywhere else. 3

The part that sucks is all the rules and the visa stuff and so on. But once you complied with that its pretty ok to live here. But your right decisions made way back might be different now. But who knows how you liked the old country. I like most things here but there is no perfect fit anywhere.

And what you said made a lot a sense. The thoughts and plans you have at the age you start may not align with your future self. With that said, by the time you look up, the world you once knew already moved on. So you live where and what you know.

Stressing over something which you have absolutely no control nor influence over is just pointless. I stressed (not exactly stressed) but got worked up about all the lies and corruption in Thailand. When I arrived it was Thaksin time and he lied and cheated (just like the current mob). Back then it affected me more as I was used to clean politicians. For a long time I was under the impression (wrongfully) that an other government would be cleaner. Having now seen Prayut I know its not true, and they are all doing the same stupid things. The things that bothered me about Thaksin and his clones are the same that bother me now about Prayut. But at this point I have accepted that the lies and cheating politicians get away with it and journalist won't stick their neck out. (think about the test kids that were bought too expensive and the government organization that would test them but that did not happen even though some hospitals now complain about the high fault rate those kind of things would not have been let go in my country)

You are absolutely right. I have my opinions when it comes to politics, both here in the U.S. and abroad in Thailand. Here, I know I have an opportunity to voice that. There, I know that while I can feel as passionate about the political situation, as a guest there at the whim of the government at the time, my opinion is best kept to myself.

In my view politics the world over is the same, they all promise the earth to get into office then do whatever feathers their nest. Then every few years its rinse and repeat. Thailand is run on corruption, its a part of life here where cash rules. That wont change in my kifetime or beyond. Understand the nature of the beast ! It will not effect your day to day living anyway (for most). 7

Popular Post HeijoshinCool
. The people you refer to were worthless whiners in their homelands and will be worthless whiners anywhere they go. Even Heaven will be a horrible, poorly managed, idiot-occupied venue for them..... Not that many of them will make it there. 3 1 1

My wish for everyone is to have at least one slice of happiness in their lives, whatever it may be, to at least have had that moment to live. You're comment gave me the feels over here. Popular Post MRToMRT
In defence of the older posters (of which I am one). They experienced a different Thailand, a more 3rd world, on the edge, ruralistic, culturally dependent, cheaper, base, developing Thailand than exists today. They simply miss those days and times. The times when Thailand was a thrilling foreign and cultural experience to the young foreigner, not the standard internationalised concrete culturally devoid capitalistic template it offers today like most other places. 13
