It's raining again.

Featured Replies

As far as I can tell this rain has been non-stop since 3 a.m. and heavy too.

I am staying put in my hilltop Naklua condo but has anyone ventured out and have any useful info about floods, canoe sightings, fishing spots, etc. to share?

Stay safe and stay dry.

Wondering the same. I guess many roads will be flooded (i.e. Beach Road, Sukhumvit Road). How would the situation be at Soi Kao Talo ?

Up here sun out at last !   Yesterday , all day it looked like suitable for an undertaker's jolly day out. Grey and no movement in the trees , cats sleeping . It was awful . Could have stayed in bed all day.

What a contrast , will have to go for a ride .

Yep, some solid rain in Jomtien but persistent as opposed to a full-on tropical downpour as yet - it looks like it will get worse.

I'm trying to convince the missus to venture out and leave me in peace for my routine Sunday sport catchup.  But she only got the truck washed and detailed yesterday and is adamant it's not getting dirty just yet.

Started around 2am, went for a 8km walk in the rain, no flooding yet around Pattaya, Buakhao or Pratumnak

Here on the Darkside it's been raining most of the night but luckily not hard, even light to none at times.

A challenging question.

Found an interesting map showing the obvious: major parts of Naklua (north of Dolphin circle) are "hilltop". I had a mate who lived near top of Soi 16 (Riviera Wongamat) and I remember how I went "uphill".

(of course some spots in Naklua also forming a "pool")

Yes, clearly a Hill. But Naklua Hill i am not aware of.

I'm near Silver Lake, love the cool rain. No floods around here,  but the lake looks very healthy.

I recently read Lake Mabprachan was full and they are opening the drains to let water out, highest water level in years they say.

Jomtien been raining steady better part of past 36 hours.

Would the call out ladies come to your apartment ?

Yes.! Or so a friend told me last night. ????

I drove around Pattaya, no flooded areas in my way, bar some groundwater on the North end of the Railway Line Bypass Rd.. It had rained non-stop since it woke me at 5am as far as I could tell.... until this morning!

Probably the highest in the last 3 years at least.

I recall the 2 years before covid (2018/19) we had reduced water pressure and some outages because the rainy seasons didn't do much to fill the reservoirs. Not too many outages in the last part of 2020 as there wasn't as much demand on the system with no tourists and fewer people. Pressure still seems to be lower than before though.
I remember going around Mabprachan last Dec/Jan, when it should have been almost full (from the 2020 rainy season), and noting how much "land" was visible and how we still had months to go before the (2021) rainy season. (I thought they should have been out there dredging out the reservoirs a couple years ago to increase the capacity. Especially as the water levels were so low and with half the normal population using what water there was.)

There seems to be a 3/4 year cycle to it. Every few years it's the same thing. Less rain for a couple years, reservoirs/dams at their lowest levels, farmers told not to plant second crops.
Then it's a couple years of "flood, flood, FLOOD !" as the same reservoirs/dams are full and the ground is saturated from constant rain. If it holds true, we will probably have another year or two like this and then back to "drought" conditions again (right around when there will be max tourism again of course).

This current rain isn't too bad. It was a steady downpour but not a "monsoon". We probably got as much rain in two days as we'd normally get in 2 hours so the system may have been able to handle it better.

The way they are going with the work on the railway bypass though, these rains may turn that whole thing into one large drainage canal. Seems almost every place they've dug, laid pipe, covered and paved over has washed out or collapsed as the rains have washed away the loose sand they've used as backfill. You really don't want to drive/ride in the left lane of the bypass (southbound) between Nern Plerb Wan and Khao Talo anymore.

Love that rain!  yes it has been raining but not heavy enough to prevent me going out. raining since 3am but during the day I didn't noticed any flooding anywhere I travel the back hills from the darkside to Makro on the way home took a chance headed north Sukhumvit no flooding at Pattaya Tai.????
