Just 10 tourists test positive for COVID-19 since Thailand reopening

As of Friday, only 10 tourists out of 13,129 who had arrived in Thailand between Nov 1 and 4 had tested positive for COVID-19.

 

According to Dr Sumanee Watcharasin from the Department of Disease Control (DDC), the 10 people who tested positive on arrival accounted for just 0.075 percent of all visitors.

 

Most tourists had arrived in Thailand via Suvarnabhumi Airport, followed by Phuket and Samui airports, Dr Sumane said.

 

To date, most tourists had arrived from the United States (1,593) Germany (1,592) and the United Kingdom (1,006), followed by Japan (935), Switzerland (624), Sweden (511), South Korea (499), Netherlands (363), UAE (350) and China (345). 

 

On Friday, 83 tourists arrived in Chiang Mai from South Korea, while 277 Russian tourists arrived in Phuket on Saturday on a flight from Moscow.

Large part, probably majority, are thai citizens. They did not come for holidays, but rather to visit their families.

The rest are expats, businessmen, foreign workers.

They all came in on COE rules, as TP was just launched days before and with hiccups.

They were holding their return in October, waiting for liberalisation of rules from November.

 

There are 6 categories at TP application form (probably same was of CEO form), including travel/tourism, but those 13k are from all groups.

 

Those statistics will be played up by TAT as success, but in reality they are failure

So according to those stats 1 in 1,313 are infected on incoming flights. If you are unfortunate to be seated nearby to that infected person you'll be quarantined as well. Thailand is barely 46% vaccinated so testing must continue for all arrivals.

Does it matter if they were tourists or not ? It's 13k travelers plus too Thailand. The thread is about how many of them were tested positive of Covid 19 . If comment's  are given keep it within the subject, and stop elaborating what kind of permits etc. they hold.

Hey, @Will B Good! What does the TAT calc. say about that mass invasion. 13 129 in 4 days! That must be around 3 million before Dec. 31st, right?

the title of this article mentions only tourists, not travellers.

It's done on purpose, as the government propaganda, that thailand is wide opened, while in reality very few foreigners and tourists are coming. 

In phuket sandbox only some 25% were genuine tourists. Most likely the same trend will be with AS and TP. Just very early steps to true opening.  

 

As to true covid positive travellers that figure is changing in every government report. They might even downplay it on purpose, as not to scare tourists. They haven't mentioned those in close contact to infected, who also are required to be put in hospital or hospitel for 10 days isolation

Waste of money to be placed in hospital if it's not needed.

 

Most of the 10 positive people were most likely vaccinated, and because of that go through a mild case.

A simple quarantine should do the trick.

 

What I'm interested to know is what happened to those sitting close to them on the plane.

no, in thailand those with close contact with infected are also forced to hospital or hospitel for 10 days. There is a plan to shorten it to only 3-4 days

Thais returning from Canada do need a negative preflight Covid test (within 72hrs before boarding) as well as another test on entry to Thailand.

Depends of the insurance you've signed. Many policies won't cover hospital costs if you're  tested positive but asymptomatic.

Insurance only pays if you actually have Covid and require medical treatment  so if you test positive has big financial implications.

All due respect I doubt a Thai policy will state this.

 

One insco didn't pay my FIL 100k bc he didn't have a PCR test despite being taken into field hospital, medical treatment for two weeks. Medicine for covid. Dr signed papers dx covid. Thailand is totally cowboy. Beggars belief especially bc covid is now know to be as much if not more harmful to cardio vascular.

 

What my wife was told was that an x-ray needs to show covid in a lung/s

 

They paid MiL bc she had an x-ray despite no PCR.

 

Everyone!! If you get sent to hospital jail be certain you have multiple PCR tests for covid.

We're all classed as tourists... that never changes.

Only the duration of our stay.
