My exhaust is 87 decibels its very loud, its been check by local DLT and I have my road disc & insurance so I couldn't give monkeys.

In the TIS 341-2528 (1985) the noise limit for all was 100 dBA. 

 

The USA is a mess with different rules for every State.  Many don't have a specified dBA level so you're at the mercy of the cops.  Others say no louder than the stock muffler.  Those that do specify a limit vary from about 80 to 95 dBA.

 

I haven't noticed a crackdown. I've had 2 bikes with aftermarket exhausts go through the checks in the last month and both have aftermarket exhausts and both passed, including a Ducati with a Termignoni full system. Both also have the licence plate under the tail section.

 

Although I did notice that on the Ducati they only tested the right side exhaust for sound and emissions. Since the bike has one exhaust pipe for each cylinder (one on each side of the bike) they must be only recording about 50% of the total. I was going to point that out to them, but by the time I had finished watching the episode of Squid Game on my phone, they'd already finished the test. Oh well, never mind ????.

Reading the Thai law roads rules as you said as broken pistons said it's ammended to all 95db, a couple of pages on it reads about testing mentioning 95db & over 125cc 99db. 

 

The TIS stamp seems to be a problem for many riders here. 

At my testing Station and our local DLT it's not a problem.

 

In UK it's 74db and is checked at MOT before MOT you can fit aftermarket but race cans are stamped not for road use. 

 

Exhaust system designs can be quite different now with catalytic's and valve systems.

 

My old bike in UK would be allowed through the MOT at 87db because it's still the OEM original exhaust design from the manufacturing date. 

 

I would have no objection to fitting a TIS muffler but not until our test station tells me.

A shame but part of motoring culture seems to be making noise and causing nuisance. Same in USA, where half the dogs are pit-bulls and people parade around revving engines. What are they going to do when Harleys go all electric, install a loudspeaker with a 750-Watt 

amplifier to simulate exhaust noise?
