COVID-19: Thailand reports 6,343 new coronavirus cases, 45 deaths, 7,663 recoveries

Thailand on Monday (November 15) reported 6,343 new COVID-19 cases, 7,663 recoveries and 45 additional deaths over the past 24 hours. 

 

▶︎ Infections outside prisons: 6,155. Prisons: 188

▶︎ Recoveries: 7,663

▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 1,995,890

▶︎ Total recoveries since since April 1: 1,883,083

 

Monday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,024,753 with 20,081 deaths.

 

The news comes as PM Prayut calls for Covid vaccines and medicines to be made global public goods. During his speech, Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha touched on how the COVID-19 pandemic afflicted health security and economic security all around the world and deepened many aspects of disparity.

 

He suggested closing disparity gaps, firstly by working on the public health emergencies preparedness and response system. He asked all countries and parties to collaborate on this work under a multilateral approach.

 

The prime minister gave emphasis to global collaboration in 3 major areas, the first of which is making COVID-19 vaccines and medicines public goods.

It's not just the flight availability that is the main hurdle. Thai authorities have stated they require you to have a 50,000 THB insurance even if you transit through Suvarnhabumi airport.

 

Now the question is, how can the Thai authorities enforce enforce this requirement if the Airport's transit zone is considered as an international zone and not in Thailand?

How would/could the Thai authorities possibly enforce this?

 

In case you are flying from Dubai to Cambodia with a layover stop in Bangkok? Sure the RT-PCR test is a standard "requirement" these days to board pretty much any planes around the globe, and besides Cambodia expects you to provide a RT-PCR test on arrival as well, so that is a moot point.

 

However the insurance appears not to be a requirement to travel to Cambodia anymore starting effectively today.

 

If you're not passing Thai immigration, not leaving the airport's international zone and not (attempting to) enter(ing) Thailand.

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has allowed schools to offer on-site classroom starting from Monday (November 15), after over 80 per cent of secondary school students in the province have been vaccinated against Covid-19 and the number of daily infections have declined continually.

 

“Each classroom will have not over 25 students. Schools may consider offering one-site classroom every other day and providing online classroom if necessary,” said Aswin. 

 

“In case a new patient was found in a classroom, BMA will issue an order to shut down the class for three days for cleaning,” he added. “If patients were found in more than one classes, the school may consider shutting down the entire grade for three days for cleaning.”

 

School Pass system whereas students and staff must perform ATK tests every 7 days.

Elsewhere in the province, 64 cases were found in Pranburi, 16 cases in Sam Roi Yot, 3 cases in Kuiburi, 4 cases found in Thap Sakae, 27 cases in Bang Saphan, 2 cases in Bang Saphan Noi, and 9 cases in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan.

No new deaths were reported.

Spent an hour at the daughters Wat school this morning to pick up the school books needed for the on-line teaching that is being done.  Funny thing was they have no idea when they may be able to start the lower grades even in light of the BMA and MOE saying they can.  I guess the final word comes from the director.  

 

Weekly testing is being done at the school for those upper grade students who are double vaccinated, many of whom just received the 2nd vaccine a little over a week ago.  I asked about the students actually being able to interact with the teachers during an offline time via video call if they did not, or we did not understand the lessons given.  I just was given a confused look as to why I would ask such a question.

 

With Loy Krathong coming up this weekend I am curious as to what the parameters will be, as I have seen absolutely nothing on it as far as open locations and such.  Why do they always wait until the last moment.

 

Hua Hin looks to be in a little bit of a predicament, and then so does Chiang Mai.  Starting to see more life around our area in Sathorn, and it appears the majority have returned to working in the offices.  Traffic this morning was very busy.

Spent the better part of the morning looking at as many Thai news papers I can, as well as the English ones today, in order to Identify a province where schools are back in session and yet it is not compulsory for the staff to be vaccinated.  I hate to say I have not found the supposed province another member wrote about yesterday but would not name the Issan province or school in the North.  Everything I found states that Schools must have either 85% of the staff vaccinated as well as the students 12 and above and testing is to be done.  If their is a province that is not doing as directed, and yet that provinces Health director has sanctioned it, that in itself goes against the MOE requirement that 85% must be vaccinated before the schools open.

 

If I could find the province in question it would be nice to see what actual rules are in place to keep covid at bay in light of the newest round of schools being closed because of covid which @Bkk Brian posted earlier.

 

I even asked at the school this morning that we dropped by and was told there was no way any school anywhere could reopen without meeting the MOE requirements which could be altered but with possibly more stringent regulations by the local provincial health director like the BMA has done.  Here in Bangkok the 109 schools that did open have a 80% vaccination rate for the students who are above 12.  Thank you @anchadian for the post above.

I  have to say it felt great dropping my 6-year-old off at school in Bangkok this morning, for the first time since April!  I just hope that the school doesn't overreact to any positive test results and send evwryone back to online again!

Wish we could have done the same with the daughter.  The GF is sitting at the kitchen table assisting the daughter now.  We picked up almost 20 different books today for the daughters 1st grade studies.  Insanity.

Or like Phuket send them straight to a hospitel, 13 of them, instead of isolating at home where all parents are vaccinated
