Hundreds of Pattaya business owners file formal request to Chonburi Governor, Pattaya Mayor, and the CCSA to allow alcohol sales at venues

Business operators in Pattaya and Jomtien have formally handed letters and petitions to the Chonburi Governor and the Pattaya City Mayor, which will also reportedly be presented to the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, asking to allow alcohol sales in restaurants before the New Year and for Pattaya to be allowed a similar program to Phuket or Bangkok which currently allow sales and have seen many venues spring back to life.

 

Today (November 16th) business operators representing nearly 400 business owners from the hospitality, hotel, restaurant, bar, entertainment, and nightlife industry went to the Chonburi Provincial Hall and The Pattaya City Hall and handed formal letters to Chonburi Governor Phakarathorn Teanchai and the Pattaya City Mayor Sonthaya Khunplome.

 

The letter states they are requesting to allow the Banglamung district to lift the ban on alcohol sales like Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi and Phang Nga before New Year. The lifting of this ban would, in theory, allow many venues to open as “restaurants” like in Phuket or Bangkok if the Thai Stop Covid Plus certification was allowed or similar plans being used in other provinces as “exemptions” were permitted locally.

 

The letter includes close to 400 names of various business operators and owners in Banglamung who have signed the letter. The business owners are only calling for Pattaya, reported by the Mayor to be the third most vaccinated place in the country in terms of the province and city, to be allowed to sell alcohol and lift the almost eight-month ban, replicating programs in Bangkok, Phuket, and other places that have seen a revival of business since lifting their own respective bans. The business owners stressed that they are willing to comply with all Covid measures and have many proposals and ideas for safely opening their venues while providing thousands with employment.

 

A representative of the Chonburi governor, the Administrative Chief Mr. Chawanin Wongsatitjirakan, and Pattaya Mayor Sonthaya Khunplume received the letters from business operators.

Simple:  Hand out big fat envelopes to the cops/politicians and do anything you want.  Don't hand out envelopes and stay closed or get raided.

Only 400 signatures? Not good. Just shows a lot of apathy from Pattaya business owners who don't see the big picture.  If tourists can't get what they want they will go elsewhere (ie. Phuket, Bangkok). That simple! This will effect hotels. laundrettes, barber shops, convenience stores ... any business that relys on the tourist baht. Just because your business doesn't sell alcohol doesn't mean its not your business and, consequently, no need to get involved in signing the petition.

What a ridiculous charade. I'm sure they're aware the ban has nothing to do with Covid yet they have to pretend that's why they have not been allowed to operate and try to turn a profit. The government wants the old Pattaya, and the punters who live or visit there, gone for good.

a bar across from treetown (20m away) tried that last week and got raided - if the police had looked over their shoulder they would have seen hundreds of people all drinking jam packed into that small area - they just ignored it, it is now so packed that they are putting tables on the walkway to the toilets, there is also a shop openly selling beer beside the toilets all ignored by the police - I kid you not, someone is paying the cops big money for them to ignore this

300/400 it is still a lot of businesses considering that many have shut for good - all restaurants of course, if I was an owner I would be extremely angry as to how treetoen is getting away with it.

As for treetown, no different to other places owned or serving the elites , though tree town was raided not too long ago and something like 20-30 people were taken away

treetown has never been raided - outside on the footpath beside treetown was raided several times

I tend to agree with you but I am told it is out there (in Thai) and who knows how many people have cancelled a holiday since last Friday's announcement. Some big players may be giving him grief and I would not rule out a softening of some rules following this Friday's big meeting.

In response to the PM's comment I think it is he who should stop being so selfish and allow the restaurants to sell alcohol in Pattaya and stop hogging the business in government preferred places like Bangkok & Phuket

Not only Pattaya, but the whole country businesses should up arms (peacefully) and make their voices heard via Thai TV channels that they'll all open for Xmas and New Year come what may.      

 

I am now fed up to my back teeth with this government which has lost the plot. Thai people spread Covid which has not registered, so up the Vax rate to those who want it, and let the others become part of the herd immunity.  Which needs to happen at some future point, or we'll all be stuck in a lockdown time bubble ad infinitum. 

 

As for tourists, most will go elsewhere to celebrate Xmas and the New Year. So focus on getting this country up and running again.
