Scooter Rental and Best Area to Stay Where A Lot of Activities to Walk To?

Recommended Posts

In Pattaya now, but will be travelling to Phuket for a week.

Looking to rent a scooter and looking for recommendations.

Also looking for an area to stay that has a lot of activities--restaurants, shopping, etc. close by to walk to.

I know it sounds like a contradiction, but like to ride during the day, but not at night.

Thanks

There are places to rent scooters on every main street (like Pattaya, I guess) but I would tend to either get a recommendation from my hotel/landlord or find a place with a website - might be more expensive but I would hope more reputable?

If you're coming soon I would recommend Patong as there is some life around the Beach Road/Bangla areas, although other parts are still reeling from the Covid impact. Kamala (my base) isn't bad, and some will say Rawai is quite lively.

(Better advice on here than the nannies on that other site - which I no longer contribute to)

I'd say that Kamala and Rawai don't meet the OP's requirement of 'lots of activities close by', only Phuket town and patong do imo.

I think the big problem is "to walk to".   There is of course the day/night scenario.   Night time, Patong or maybe Rawai would fit the bill in terms of walking anywhere.   Daytime, inspite of being more vibrant than it was, all the significant shops are closed in Patong (i.e. Jung Ceylon).   Restaurant choices are still very limited.

Rawai, more choices and easy distance (motor cycle) of shopping (Chalong/Phuket Town).   Patong, whether heading north, south or east, unpleasant hills to get elsewhere, and you really don't want to be doing them at night or in poor weather.

Are you familiar with renting a vehicle in Thailand?

One little scratch can cost you a fortune. Be careful!

he wants to rent a scooter, not a jet ski.

Be helpful if you tell us what area of Phuket you'll be staying.

We've rented scooters there and its a great way to see the island!

Also avoid rip-off taxis!

Enjoy your stay!
