My disgust goes out to all you "do gooders" out there who obviously have lived a sheltered life in your well educated "bubble' in nanny state countries where a formal education is the norm, Governments expected to be a safety net & a job pays a decent salary enabling 3 decent meals a day

Not saying you did not work hard, but the realities of  life in Thailand are that without at least a secondary school completion pretty impossible to get a "decent job" as you call it & would end up

back on the farm eeking out an existence.

They have used their inititive & found work that gives them half a chance at life.

The hypocrisy behind many comments just reeks of the above.

Most are decent people fighting to help themselves get something a bit more than subsistance

I agree.. in my opinion the article linked to in the OP was well thought through.

Also IMO, as the Thai govt persists in saying "there is no prostitution", even people within that Govt who might want to help, would find themselves blocked at every turn.

To address a problem you first have to acknowledge its existence.

The "trade" is changing but not dying off. Prostitution is rapidly and overwhelmingly moving online and it will continue that way, and will definitely replace the old ways (street, gogo/girlie bars etc...etc...) There will be no going back to what old timers knew. Nana's, cowboy's, walking streets and so on will pretty much disapear. The same happened in Paris with Pigalle which 30 or 40 years ago had countless goo bars lining up in the adjacent street. From now on, those who look for "that " will need to look online. Certainly not as fun for a certain type of night -out , but that's how it is.

That's true in UK too...there are many websites where ladies and gentlemen and those of myriad genders advertise their services.  That includes Thai persons of all genders.  The generally accepted term is "service providers"  The old "red light" districts, certainly in London and south east England are basically gone.

If (when???) Thailand goes the same way, the only thing distinguishable about it will be the price. Much of the fun in Thailand has always been the atmosphere of bars, gogos, GCs or wherever you happen to like to make contact with these service providers.

You make it sound like all the girls are innocent victims of the trade. Some of the girl working the bar scene are so hard-core they make oilfield workers look like small school boys.

Quote: the last paragraph of my post.

"And yes some like the life style of laying on a beach all day, being wined & dined by gentlemen which saves them money, and then the added bonus of payment for services rendered, earning more in a week then they would in a month in a factory, sitting at a sewing machine or in an office"

Amazing how many on here take the moral high ground regarding the oldest profession in the world and without which, the likes of Pattaya would not exist.

The article addresses  2 separate issues, sex trade and transgenders. Strikes me it is trying to promote one on the back of another.

yeah right, just another DUMB Farang... has it ever hit your mind that many of this girls having no other chance to survive but in a business like this??? I bet not.  Most of you Sextourists are brainless guys, never giving anything a second thought. Many of you not even been to Isan or having no idea how things realy work here, that most Thaimen just running away after getting a girl pregnant and many of them do not have many other chances to feed the kid(s) or their family, because there is NOT such a security or social system with pension like in your countries...

"yeah right, just another DUMB Farang..."

None of the people in the linked article would ever have the problem of getting pregnant, they're all blokes, trannies!

another one just in Thailand for the weather

???? I've been living here for over a decade, and as for my original statement, call it tough love, eventually those selling their bodies to strangers with money will stop hooking and get a "real" job, now it the perfect time for a life reset.  Or would you prefer they keep selling their body till they drop?

Why should anyone be beholding to the grotty image and sordid nightlife that Pattaya offers to those who prefer to buy the girl and enslave her to their will.  Its shameful behaviour thats only accepted because its an agreement between lo so strangers looking for easy cash and cheap thrills.  Would you advocate for it if it was your daughter, sister or mother?  I hope their halo hasnt slipped ????

:cheesy:x a lot.

Last i saw was girls still working in the bars but behind the shutters doing livestreams of nothing at all so guys can buy them drinks from behind a computer. Really weird.

After a walk around Pattaya last week I'm not sure that is even still happening. Place is a wasteland. Nothing much happening at all.

When I came here with a mate for my first holiday which was for 4 weeks I had more birds than you could shake a stick at ???? That was about 17 years ago, for approximately 5 years I came here twice a year, each was for 4 weeks, I had a whale of a time every visit, and the girls were stunners, unfortunately today the standards have dropped somewhat & I'm truly grateful that I no longer have to rely on the P4P scene.

But back in the day fun was had by all, and the crazy exchange rate made it so so affordable ????????

Is there anything positive (regarding returning to the past glory) happening on Walking Street? Any bars getting refurbished, any bars getting ready to open, any girls hanging out?

Did I just  read The Stones House was reopening....?

Education or shall I say lack of contributes to the situation.

How many of us finished school at 14-15 years old and lived

a successful life....

Possibly encouraged to do this type of work by older relatives

with little to no education....

Take a survey when you walk down and ask people of this

profession if they know it’s illegal... some don’t have a clue.....

Selling it? Really? I've never been offered to buy a body.

It's a diverse world and the reasons why people sell sex are many and varied. It's easy to assume it's all based on hardship and lack of options. But even in the affluent and well-off western democracies I see young middle class women choosing to work for a few months selling sex in places like Dubai. Because the money you can earn is insane. There's nothing else they can do that comes even close.

I'll take your word for it ???? I haven't actually visited the areas you mention for a while but I do know that these days, being caught in a car "kerb-crawling" can turn into a big deal for punters when the police prosecute and publish details of "offenders".  I hasten to add that this is not from personal experience - honest Guv! ????

There is also a great deal of CCTV in certain areas of South and East London where the "service providers"  used to congregate. Mind you, having seen some of them......oh dear!  Dracula would be proud to have them as daughters. ????

What I do know is my comment about the "many websites" is 100% fact...just don't ask me how I know...please ????

Think we might be veering :offtopic:here though......

that maybe true, YET thousands of women in western countries VOLUNTARILY work as escorts or in brothels, and for many of them it's either a 2nd income or their main source of income. I knew 4 women in Sydney ( who were neighbours ), who when in their late teens to their mid 30's, had university degrees AND good paying jobs BUT still did this kind of work. When I asked them why, I was surprised by their replies. It was the ONLY way they could satisfy their libidos. They also said that many women in the sex industry in Sydney and other aussie capital cities were in it for the sex and not the money.  So all the holier than thou sanctimonious pr**ks need to take a long hard look at themselves in the mirror before being so judgmental. While this may not be the case here in Thailand, there are just as many that try the sex industry and leave after 1 or 2 weeks because it's not for them. Just in case your comments are derived from an over zealous religious upbringing, remember that Mary Magdalen was a prostitute, BUT JC didn't condemn her for her occupation but judged her for the person she was.  Some historical documents even believe that JC married her. So those without sin cast the first stone.

You're right - I have a couple of acquaintances in UK with part-time jobs for similar reasons....and great fun they are too. (I got friends in low places!)

By the way...are we allowed to promote conspiracy theories the way you did? Mary Magdalen.... JC????  Sorry mate...greatest conspiracy of all time...you'll get in trouble for that one, in fact drop that cross once more and you'll be out of the parade! ????????????

Yes a few years ago in East London they were pulling over kerb crawlers and police took their cars. They had to then explain to their wife's when they got  home .  Then go to court and pay fine to get their impounded cars back.????

I used to work near King's Cross station, 10pm at night when I drove past, you'd better have your car doors locked because when you stopped at the traffic lights one would often try and get in the car. Don't know what nationality they were, my door was always locked and the windows were closed.
