I was informed via email today that in two weeks employment is terminated.

Originally entered Thailand in 2019 on Non-Imm B, and had work permit with extensions since then.

What if any alternatives are available other then a trip back to the UK?

Thanks everyone

Quickly find a new job. On the day that your employment ends you and your employer will have to go to the Ministry of labour office to have your WP cancelled. You then hot foot to immigration where your visa is cancelled. You pay and request for a new extension which will be denied and then you are given 7 days to sort out everything. If you can find a new job in the same location you should quite easily be able to get new WP and extension. You have 3 weeks!! Or you pack your bags and fly somewhere in region and follow local regs and start again.

Visit your nearest schools. They're all still hurting for farang teachers. They'll get you a new Non-B visa. You have the power to make a difference.

What job and where. I think that will help others to suggest.

Engineering and Bangkok? Can help with that.

Marry with Thai lady (only 1900 bath a year) and don't do nothing all day. Stop working believe me

Your marriage costs you only 1900 baht a year? What's your secret?!

When I grow up, I want to be like you ????

I agree with others that your prospects are grim. Little hope for you unless you are over 50, and you can then convert to an extension based on retirement if you meet the criteria.

While waiting in the halls of the labour department and/or immigration, you might want to study the Labour Protection Act, in particular paragraph 118ff. Therein it is stipulated, under which conditions employments can be terminated and at what costs/consequences for the employer.

Just in case your termination was not according to anything stipulated in your employment contract. But, as said, do this parallel to what has been suggested by other posters - good luck!

I would take a prnt out of the email to the office that issued the WP show them and ask their advice.

They will direct you to the Labour Court office.

You are entitled to get severance pay. Contact the local labor office, they will help you get it.

2 weeks notice is too short.

There are a couple of companies in Bangkok who supply labour to oil and gas and construction companies in the eastern industrial area. As such they have more than enough Thais employed to provide foreigners with work permits, at a price. So then one can work legally at an engineering job for a small company which doesn't have enough Thais per foreigner.

OP your work permit is issued to you, not your employer. By the labour dept. not Immigration. Many guys remain in Thailand on their legal visa extension even though they are "in between jobs". They only confront the visa extension problem when the time comes.

Thanks. I thought engineering in construction was a protected job only allowed to Thais?

Let's not be too quick to use words like grim.

As a start check the 'jobs' area of this site.

Also appraoch your embassy, sometimes they have details of staff needed by members of the aligned chamber of commerce. Or just get a list of the companies operating in Thailand then decide an appraoch.

Also appraoch the professional head hunters, maybe some leads there. And remember that normally the company needing staff pay the head hunter fees.

Find the names of all international companies in Thailand in the same/similar profession. Get a nice CV prepared and visit the companies (don't send an e.mail and don't call HR*), turn up and ask to speak to the department manager involved. Sometimes it works.

(* HR are often not aware/not yet aware of what staff department managers are looking for. Also often enough HR take a tick the box appraoch, may not be approrpriate to some vacancies.)

Good luck.

What other engineering job in construction if not Civil Engineering then?

Piping, electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, depends on the industry.
