Thailand reports 18,883 new COVID-19 cases, 32 deaths, 14,914 recoveries

Thailand on Monday (February 21) reported 18,883 new COVID-19 cases, 14,914 recoveries and 32 additional deaths over the past 24 hours. 

 

▶︎ Infections outside prisons: 18,721. Prisons: 162

▶︎ Recoveries: 14,914

 

Monday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,731,198 with 22,656 deaths.

 

The news comes as respected virologist Dr. Yong Poovorawan said Sunday that COVID-19 Omicron variant infections are on the steady rise across Thailand, averaging 25,000 cases a day and the number may surge to 100,000 cases a day in the future.

 

Judging by the rapid transmissibility of the BA.2 sub variant of the Omicron variant reported in Singapore, where daily infections average about 15,000 in a population one tenth the size of Thailand’s, Japan’s or South Korea’s, he said that Thailand may soon fall into the same pattern.

they can make data look however they want, they have an agenda and people including doctors will report exactly what they are told those that don't will get a visit for some adjustment

 

agenda IMO is to maintain power and control and keep the emergency powers in place for as long as possible

 

Thailand needs money - tourism revenue, commerce, factories etc so the will keep a 2 tiered system in place, one that keeps revenue flows going and another that gives them what they need to maintain power, akk this going on while the rest of the world are moving on and removing restrictions ..........................................omicron has pretty much ended this pandemic but Thailand refuses to recognise that on one level but the country is functioning normally on the other

I wonder if you looked at 2019 how many people across all of Thailand would be on ventilators - I suspect it would look pretty much the same, like I said above - they can make it look whatever way they want

Chart for the ICU and ventilated cases both going up as expected with so many cases being found officially and even more, probably triple that number going undetected.

 

As a comparison in the delta wave on the 17th August 2021 there were 5,536 in ICU and 1,169 ventilated cases so we are obviously nowhere near that level, thanks to vaccinations and the less virulent Omicron. However normal hospital admissions are higher now for covid wards than in the Delta wave so the burden on the health system is enormous.

 

As I mentioned in another post Omicron is 25% less virulent than the Delta strain so it still has teeth for the vulnerable and unvaccinated so get vaxxed and keep yourself aware if you are vulnerable, other than that lets get to live with this.

Up up and away.... The trend continues. Notably, a big jump in the number of hospitalized COVID cases in serious condition. Daily deaths number slowly rising as well.

The last rising trend time Thailand had about 700 COVID patients hospitalized in serious condition and 200 or so requiring intubation was late April 2021 at the beginning of Thailand's Delta wave.

 

Those numbers steadily then increased to top out at 5,600 plus and 1,100 plus, respectively, by August 2021, before that wave began to subside.

Glad you posted that chart. I had seen that as well.

 

Good to see that total Pfizer doses,a quite effective vaccine, have finally passed Sinovac as the second most administered vaccine in Thailand after AZ.

 

Equally unfortunate that Moderna, generally shown to be the most effective of the current crop of COVID vaccines, is the least used one in Thailand.

this is surprising and refreshing to see given the usual narrative of mostly coming from bars and pubs recently given the 'restaurant' designation.  the virus is spreading in all places.  suggesting one knows where the most spread comes from is a pure guess and likely a guess with bias.  in the past, some contact tracing was possible and it was possible to know the spread points but that is not the world we live in now.

Stop talking clusters, it's widespread. Omicron spreads like wildfire, measures put in place will only slow it's spread. If they tried contact tracing proper the system would be overwhelmed, days of doing that are done with unless you want go Chinese style mass city lockdowns.

Apologies for an absence but I had the hard drive on the laptop give up the ghost!! All replaced and back in action again.

So my last report on 14th Feb gave 177 cases and not sure what happened until 18th Feb when the case tally was 198 and now we have a drop.

 

Health officials on Monday (Feb 21) reported 168 new COVID-19 cases in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, of which 28 cases were found in Hua Hin.

Elsewhere in the province, 9 cases were found in Pranburi, 25 cases in Sam Roi Yot, 15 cases in Kuiburi, 10 cases in Thap Sakae, 15 cases in Bang Saphan, 29 cases in Bang Saphan Noi, and 40 cases in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan.

No new COVID-19 related deaths were reported in the province today.
