Thailand on Saturday (February 26) reported 25,615 new COVID-19 cases, 14,641 recoveries and 40 additional deaths over the past 24 hours. 

 

▶︎ Infections outside prisons: 25,449. Prisons: 166

▶︎ Recoveries: 14,641

 

Saturday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,844,897 with 22,849 deaths.

 

The news comes as Public Health Permanent Secretary Dr. Kiattibhoom Vongrachit has announced a new scheme to treat COVID-19 patients without the need for hospital admission.

 

If found to be infected, after taking a rapid antigen test, doctors will provide medications, such as Favipiravir, Fah Talai Jone Thai herbal medicine or others, depending on the symptoms exhibited, such as a fever, a cough or a runny nose. The scheme is expected to begin nationwide on March 1st.

Serious error if they do that, no tourist is going to apply for a Thailand Pass without knowing the risk of being forcibly locked up in quarantine. Goes hand in hand with the proposed internet gateway censorship all while keeping in place their emergency decree.

47,549 actual/probable cases, 166 "from abroad".  So 0.35% "from abroad".

Yes, 22,000 deaths over 2 years most of whom would have been elderly/sick and died anyway. Meanwhile 30,000 young Thais die on the roads every year.

Now have the report for 25th Feb and we are showing a surprising drop from the 344 cases reported on 24th Feb. 

 

Health officials on Friday (Feb 25) reported 257 new COVID-19 cases in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, of which 60 cases were found in Hua Hin.

Elsewhere in the province, 35 cases were found in Pranburi, 11 cases in Sam Roi Yot, 29 cases in Kuiburi, 24 cases in Thap Sakae, 33 cases in Bang Saphan, 12 cases in Bang Saphan Noi, and 53 cases in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan.

One COVID-19 related death was reported in the province today.

Thank you for this far more complete picture than just PCR numbers that are generally quoted. What it shows is a 10k/day increase in last 3 days in number of total detected cases (RT-PCR+ATK) but at the same time, the fatalities are nowhere near what they were in last Delta wave, confirming far milder effect of Omicron than Delta and other previous variants, or possibly a combination with large proportion or population being vaccinated.

 

Overall, this is a positive direction towards the end of pandemic. There's light at the end of the tunnel. Let's just hope the roof doesn't cave in and that's not light on a train speeding towards us.

While its very positive that this Omicron variant is despite its higher numbers causing far less deaths due to vaccinations and its less virulent nature, comparing it to road deaths is also not a good comparison. 

 

Firstly there were not 30,000 road deaths last year or any recent previous years. 

 

WHO estimates 22,941 people die each year due to traffic-related incidents in Thailand although the figure was less last year due to the lockdowns which resulted in less travel.

 

Last year, "one year only" covid deaths in Thailand were around 22,000 and thats without the excess deaths calculated in.

With the new rules of only one PCR test supervised at arrival this becomes much less likely.

Your argument is that the government has been so successful in reducing Covid deaths that it should continue the Covid restrictions to prevent even more deaths.

Except for the 80,000+ in hospital.

Tourists considering coming to Thailand imo would not be considering deliberately faking their antigen test result on the 5th day if positive. maybe something living here we would consider but pretty sure that’s the last thing a family of 4 would be doing.

 

I still maintain that to withhold daily case information while their is an emergency decree, restrictions on events, number of people allowed to gather together with many schools closed, many actually still not been opened for over a year. No for that to be done it needs to be endemic, everything open and no Thailand Pass.

Official new COVID cases in Thailand set a pandemic record high for the third consecutive day on Saturday with 25,615 new cases reported, passing the 25,000 mark for the first time.

 

The total number of COVID patients under care passed the 200,000 mark for the first time at 201,044. The number of COVID patients hospitalized passed the 80,000 mark for the first time with 83,703. And the number of COVID patients hospitalized in serious condition at 965 continued its steady climb toward the 1,000 mark.

 

Daily new COVID deaths flattened at 40 for the day, but the positivity rate of RT-PCR testing continued upward now standing at 32% versus 7% at the beginning of the year.

For some added context, during the peak of the Delta wave last fall, Thailand's numbers of serious hospital cases and intubated patients topped 5,600 and 1,100 respectively, and daily deaths topped 300 for a brief period.

 

 

There now have been 1,151 official COVID deaths in Thailand in the almost two months since the start of the year, which is a 0.19% case fatality rate based on the total number of official COVID cases during that period.

 

The current fatality rate is about one-fifth of the peak rate of more than 1% that Thailand experienced last September following the peak of the Delta wave the month before.

 

Thailand's cumulative case fatality rate (the number of deaths out of the total number of cases) since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 0.8%.

Here's a look at the cumulative officially reported COVID per capita death rates (deaths per million population) by selected countries since the start of the pandemic. Thailand, with 22,849 official cumulative COVID deaths thus far, is pretty much in the middle of the pack among the countries below on a per capita basis.

The entire country could be infected tomorrow. But if there are no deaths it is a moot statistic.

 

40 deaths for a country the size of Thailand is not something to be drawing headlines everyday.

Also, as Brian noted above, the current COVID daily fatality number is about equal to Thailand's daily road deaths average.  And Thailand is among the worst in the world when it comes to road deaths! And from time to time, the local news media gets exorcized with big headlines about those numbers as well.

My first reaction to booking a Holiday in Thailand without knowing the amount of Covid and its Variant, along with all the other risks, would be an Instant

Thailand's Authoritarian State attitude that seems to be resurfacing after this  Covid Pandemic, is never going to win favour from Tourists .

And a much bigger issue would be the attitude of Employers and Investors . Both present and future.
