Plans have been revealed to promote Hua Hin and Cha Am as “The World Class City of Relaxation” in a bid to attract high spending, so-called ‘quality’ tourists.

The plans were outlined during a ceremony which saw the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Hua Hin Municipality and Silapakorn University, which will provide academic assistance in the form of research and consultancy services for the project.

Attending the ceremony was Hua Hin Mayor, Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul; Assistant Professor Chaichan Thawornvej, President of Silpakorn University; and Mr. Krot Rojanasathien, Chairperson of the Thai Chamber of Commerce’s Health Service Business Strategy Committee and President of the Thai Spa Association; and Mrs. Kulpramote Wannalert, Group Director, Marketing Operations Europe, Africa, Middle East, and Americas.

The plans follow on from a previous announcement made in January from the government’s Centre for Economic Situation Administration for Hua Hin and Cha Am to become Thailand’s ‘Wellness Sandbox’ and a hub for medical tourism.

It's just another un-ending sh*t prediction after another.

What a joke! It was called paradise city some years ago. Did this ever had a  change for the people? See the miserable state of the roads in every part of the city. I offer the magnificent mayor of Hua Hin a free ride around. Since years so little has changed for the people of Hua Hin and the big expat community. The roads in Hua Hin are word class for depravity, desolation and destruction. The high spending "quality tourists" will love it here

Be fair, these days it's twiddle your thumbs, come up with silly slogans or think of even more outrageous predictions. My guess would be their thumbs are aching.

I visited Hua Hin twice fairly recently. Staying for two nights each time. It was very quiet because of Covid. But it seemed like a nice place.  I enjoyed it.
But I don’t think I would actually think of it as a “world class” type of city.

Having been living here for for the last 3 months compared to Chiang Mai it is! apart from the middle bit of soi 88 just before you go up the hill that is out of this world and rougher than a Swindon council estate ????

Facile nonsense.
I guess these folks have nothing better to do than run their mouths.

1. Build an decent rail link to Bangkok (that's the capital).

2. Build a decent airport

3. Build a by-pass

4. Clean up the beaches

5. Build some decent spa hotels

6. Clear up the rubbish

7. Get rid of the soi dogs

Yep..........I can see it all coming together nicely.

Then I suggest the researchers behind this should go and visit some world class city destinations because Hua Hin is currently a run down little seaside town. It has the potential but it will involve huge investment and international architects, planners and hospitality professionals.

Hey...not bad as I don't know the place and that was straight off the top of head.......could be in TAT.

I was planning a trip to Hua Hin. but from everything I've read, most of it is shut down.

(Unless people are saying that to keep rabble like me from thinking it's worth a visit. Can't blame them.)

It appears there's not much else to do in Hua Hin at the moment but relax...

Never saw the attraction

Then do something about the horrendous traffic on the main road first, because that’s not relaxing at all.

I want to like Hua Hin as its only an hour or two from my place, unfortunately I find its quite dirty and that main road through the centre of it completely puts me off. I usually drive straight past it and stop by or stay in Sam Roi Yot, which I think is more suitable for relaxation. It has fewer people, less traffic, a quieter beach and more nature.
