More details are emerging after police in Khok Soong village of Ubonrat district, Khon Kaen in the north east of Thailand locked up a sick granny for growing ONE marijuana plant.

Nang, 70 told Channel 7 national news: "I thought the cops were coming about the pipe leading from the rice field. I thought they wanted to talk to someone else.

Then they said:

"Don't you know it's illegal to have that gran?"

They were pointing at a 1 m 40 cm tall plant that Nang kept in her front herb garden.

She quite calmly explained that she uses it to make a nice herbal tea that soothes her many ailments.

The police showing a decided lack of tact took her in along with neighbor Bunleng, 48, who was found with one plant herself.

Ten people later rallied at the police station after the ladies were held for 24 hours without bail being approved.

The case came at the same time that DPM Anutin Charnvirakul was opening a marijuana festival.

But that is for medical marijuana. Despite Nang claiming her plant was for medical use it had a flowering head.

That'll mean the presence of THC - the substance that makes you feel high that the Thai authorities are keeping back from the public.

They done good......just because she is old, weak and fragile doesn't mean she's not part of some huge drug dealing gang....they need to clamp down on such miscreants.

  • Oh dear. 20 years in jail. Don't forget about Ferrari Joe and all his partners.

  • Lock up them up with the illegal mushroom collectors! And with the granny that cooked the lizard! Thailand is ruled by the law. Completely unbiased.

Indeed this lady is a danger to Thailand and this simple plant far worse then drinking alcohol. So lock her up and throw away the key and safe Thailand. And don't go blaming Anutin for creating this confusing its these plebs that are just not smart enough to understand the rules.

Hard to tell from the pixelated photo, but I imagine she is covered in tattoos and is a well hard faced be-atch.

Apparently she eats her breakfast egg while it's still inside the chicken.

She should have bought a Ferrari with the proceeds of selling that one plant.

The cops couldn't take that chance in case she mowed one of them down and did a runner.

What swine "grassed" on her?

I find it odd that the police can't see a motorcycle rider without a helmet, driving in the wrong direction, on a footpath, while checking Facebook on their phone but they can spot a Ganja leaf at 300 paces.

Well, she isn't out of the woods yet. TIT, what an amazing country. To think marijuana will be legal before they let her out of jail.

Not sure if anyone said, but I thought this high-level ganga govt. minister would come to aid of anyone like her during this transition period.

Terrible.

2 pet hates of Thailand - road carnage and the totally out-of-sync YES/NO/MAYBE corrupt government.

And make sure they take away her motorbike … Police could not find a helmet

The RTP, and the army fools as always, are picking on the little guy. Or in this case, the little grandmom. Don't have alot of cash? Now you need to pay with an arrest.

Such foolishness. Such churlish and obnoxious behavior. And they are talking about making Thailand a ganga tourism destination? Going to have to fire 230,000 RTP franchisees, before they can make that happen.

Distraction techniques.

Stop the people from talking about covid, politics and starvation.

GF says they wrote the wrong date on the paper they gave her (charge sheet?) and her son is a lawyer.

The police won't talk to him.

Yeah, but she's a villain, Sir!

Remember Jack and the Bean Stalk? That was just one plant. Nuf said.

Good going RTP.

I’ve noticed that the anti-pot lock ‘em up brigade is suspiciously quiet…????

Yes it was just one plant but it was 300 feet tall, her son Jack got the seeds from a peddlar in the market in exchange for the family cow.

Everything Thailand has done recently regarding 'cannabis' is a pure joke, a lie, a trick to lure in unwitting investors.

It's a plant, the end.
