Typical price and location for MRI scan of upper arm in Pattaya.

Featured Replies

This ii a historical injury.  I fell off a ladder onto concrete from a height of about 3 metres 15 months year ago, and previously did the same thing about 8 and 10 years ago, protecting my head by falling on my left arm and shoulder (I'm a sucker for punishment!). I never visited the hospital and my arm slowly recovered.  But I'm sure that I damaged the muscles/ligaments etc.  I can use and move my arm above my head, but there is muscle pain when I sleep and when I stretch my arm behind me.  I think I need to have an MRI scan to see what the damage is, and to see if I need surgery.  I do have medical insurance, but I think that won't cover an outpatient MRI scan.

Anyway, can someone suggest a good place to get a scan in Pattaya and a medical consultation about my arm?  Thanks.

Cheap    It's a big procedure, so 8.5k baht is a great price.

  • There is not a decent government hospital in Pattaya so I would suggest you get the bus up to the hospital at Bang Saen. It is a university teaching hospital and quite good, outpatients recently moved

Would the insurance cover the preexisting condition? i doubt it,i think 20k is the ballpark cost of MRI, someone can be more specific

Had several over the years at several hospitals. Always around the 20k mark.

My wife had shoulder pain and went to this orthopedic clinic on the north end of town, they fixed her right up and she's happy.  She paid 500b for exam and steroid shot.

Before I would go down the surgery route, I'd recommend you check these guys out. (physio) Sergey is a very knowledgeable guy.

Sorted out my back (long history of lower back problems) and also a minor shoulder injury. Plenty of friends have been there too, all happy.

If memory serves me correct its about 700 THB a session.

I had an MRI at Prachachuen Imaging Group (www.mrithailand.com) in August 2019. It was 8,500 baht. It was in Bang Na though, not Pattaya.  Good service and it got my frozen shoulder sorted out.

You cannot just decide by yourself that you need an MRI scan and go do it. You need to follow proper procedure which is for your own benefit. Make an appointment to see a specialist  orthopedic surgeon. Do not accept to see anyone else that is not exactly that. He will examine you and he will advise on the necessary investigations needed. Then he will see the results himself , interpret it and advise the proper treatment.

You could try Nigel Kelsey the sports injury therapist just off Pattaya Tai  (12.921557  100.887487) mobile 0890993845. He fixed my dodgy knee no problem and for only 1000b.

I'd say a small procedure based on the two MRIs I've had (knee and shoulder) why you think big?

You may have  bone damage that did not heal properly. Asking on a forum in thailand for medical advice is crazy. Go to a hospital and ask for xrays before MRI

As per previous threads on back issues Nigel has apparently moved to Cambodia...........

A few years back, I had to fly back to Oz to get a medical and work visa for Saudi.

The medical included a chest x-ray.

When my doctor was looking at the x-ray he spotted a shadow on my lung, he wanted a MRI scan to investigate this shadow.

Before I entered the MRI machine the nurse injected my body with a dye (coloring solution) to highlight the problem area.

The day was busy, seeing the different doctors and specialists for my MRI, It seemed like it took all afternoon, big procedure.

I was in a lot of anxiety that day, very stressful.

I had a mate visit me, he came up to Brisbane to say hello, hadn't seen him in years, he kept calling me, constantly that afternoon, we had an appointment to meet at the Caxton Street hotel for a few XXXX bitter's, cold beers before going to watch the State of Origin that night.

It was a great night, QLD won, QUEENSLANDER, up the maroons ????

Greatest game to watch at the greatest venue.

BTW, what did you pay for your MRI

Not a big procedure if just going for an MRI, i had the dye also. Both mine were paid by private insurance back in UK so price wasn't mentioned, of course if you see specialist and other bill padding it takes a lot longer

There is not a decent government hospital in Pattaya so I would suggest you get the bus up to the hospital at Bang Saen. It is a university teaching hospital and quite good, outpatients recently moved into a brand new building. The hospital is falang friendly and you will be charged the same as a Thai, 100 baht to see a doctor. They also have a fairly large physio unit, that was enlarged when it was relocated to the old outpatients.

Not sure what an MRI would be, I was a bit less than 5K for an "echo".

You are quite entitled to believe what you want.

I have been going every 3 months for the last 6 years. The hospital registered me on Mhor Prom and I was vaccinated about 9am on the 7th June, the day the rollout started.

Tell me, who had better service.

You hear that a lot about the hospitals in Pattaya, normally the people who say that dont have insurance or enough money to pay for it.

Obviously you had difficulty with this statement by the OP.

" I do have medical insurance, but I think that won't cover an outpatient MRI scan."

maybe he should contact his insurer and find out?

Don't you think you should have made that comment to the OP?

My wife had a similar situation 1.5 years ago, fell on her shoulder and had terrible pain.

We went to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya and if I remember correctly she had a consult with an orthopedic surgeon, x-ray, cortisone shot and physio for about 12,000.

It helped for a few weeks, after while she enquired about a second cortisone shot, which you can't get so soon after the first and they recommend an MRI. I believe that was 15,000 including consults through which they determined that she had a detached rotator cuff.

Better hope you don't have that, because the orthoscopic reattachment surgery costs 300,000.

The wife brought the MRI results and Dr reports to the US (where the surgeon was very impressed with Bangkok Hospital's professionalism) and had the surgery done there, as it was covered by insurance.

, i had the dye also.

Was your dye given intravenously (into the veins) or given locally (injected directly into your knee)?

it was an injection in the shoulder i think but I'm not 100% it was 10 years ago

Yeah, I did some searching on Google.

Our medical procedures were different.

I had an introvenous dye injection, so I can understand your comment 'not a big procedure'

do you mean introvenous drip? or injection? if just an injection why would it differ to my dye injection? i recall it was injected and shortly after the MRI

I wasn't quoting him, I was quoting you.

I'm not the one with difficulties !!!! ????

Not sure about that.......

It would not be surprise for costs to go beyond the limits and boundaries of many of the insurance policies offered in Thailand, and having the money does not stop it being expensive. Had a broker claiming Thailand's private hospitals are becoming as expensive as many other countries now, even mentioned USA and Switzerland. I think as far as Pattaya is concerned it is one particular hospital, and people can save money by going to places out of town, given the choice.
