Thailand considers further easing restrictions on international arrival from May

The Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has approved, but only in principle, to ease more restrictions on international arrivals, tentatively from May, according to CCSA Spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin.

 

The proposed relaxation, to be further discussed and pending the COVID-19 situation during and after the upcoming long Songkran holiday next week, will affect those who arrive in Thailand under “Test and Go”, “Sandbox” and “Alternative Quarantine” programs.

They include the reduction of the US$20,000 insurance coverage requirement, fewer documents required for the “Thailand Pass”, the replacement of the RT-PCR test upon arrival with rapid antigen tests, negating the need for a hotel stay to wait for the results, and a shortening of the quarantine period for infected visitors with mild symptoms.

No it's not. Not at all.

Excellent news, if confirmed and real enough. I was not expecting May, i am still not.

 

But the main issue is about medical incarceration (for money rip-off).

Not good enough. The rule for Thais is "no hospitalization", it has to be the same for foreigners. Right now it's a total medical non-sense, so definitely a gross rip-off.

The more they wait to withdraw this rip-off, the more people will find it unacceptable, damaging Thailand image and business.

 

So what's left if this news is confirmed ?

- Vaccine ok (i mean still like most other countries)

- Insurrance... ok.

- Thai Pass is just hurting tourism.

- Test on arrival is still pretty bad, if connected to forced hospitalization with no symptoms.

 

They could make it simple ASAP, omicron is everywhere in the country already, business need to restart now (many other countries have understand this). 

And btw they could get rid of masks, restrictions on businesses, etc.

That's been the rule for Thais and foreigners for ages - there has never been a difference in how Thais and foreigners are treated in this aspect.

It's been months since they hospitalised positive cases...

Has been posted here too, and it's official : no fewer, no difficulty of breathing = no hospitalization (and in fact hospitals refuse the Thais with no symptoms).

Why it is so difficult to TAT to understand that tourists doesn't like restrictions, filling up forms, waiting for approvals.....Vacation is about peace of mind not unnecessary aggravations due to lot of unknowns.

If Thailand does away with PCR on arrival this means no more pre-paid Hotel, PCR test and airport transport to upload to Thai Pass, so at least a step in the right direction

 

This only leaves the Vax certificate and insurance. Unfortunately the insurance is still a scam. When it was $100k cover, it cost 2000 baht for 30 days, it then dropped to $50k cover but still cost 2000 baht. When it dropped to $20k, it actually went up for me to 2140 baht for the 30 days. What's the point of dropping it to $10k if the fee remains the same. ..

Get a Thai Covid insurance like Pantip. They'll soon get sick of claiming off themselves.

There it is and they're considering it, wow.  The other restrictions are bad enough but the' asymptomatic positive test  you pay hospital, insurance no cover clause, is the frosting on the s cake. Generally tourists do not like to pay 5K US, spend 10 - 14 days of a three week vacation in a hospital.

As long as the quarantine at arrival if positive even without symptons is the rule not many tourists will come.. Countries are warning people to be aware that it can cost a lot of money because the insurance will not pay or refund it... So quarantine is blocking the tourism

I'm beginning to think Thailand Pass, The mandatory useless insurance & test on arrival will be here for most of 2022. Even when they make a concrete decision it takes months to implement. This can has a long road to travel before it leaves. I miss Thailand, it's a second home for me, but positivity will get me nowhere, other than disappointed.
