Any town over 10,000 has bars. You only need 1 woman. Its not like you need to visit 20 bars. Country girls are nicer. Go to any northern or ne town talk to massage girls. Ask them out.

Is there any particular reason as to why you recommend asking masseurs out on a date , rather than any other profession ?

I read about this and it seemed fascinating, as if it belonged in "Bladerunner".

 

I read some time later that the town had died. I forgot what caused that - border crossings not allowed?

 

I may have read about a different border town on the Chinese border but it was just as you described except I believe there was one large modern style casino there.

There are now several of these towns in Myanmar. The military coup has only sped up the process of leasing land to Chinese warlords and syndicates to build these areas. There is a lot of money made there on gamblers, drug traders and other various criminals (human trading, weapons, animals and more).

99 Percent of all tourists there are Mainland Chinese. As a farang you really stand out and most girls refuse to even speak to you. Still fascinating to witness it all.

Do not expect any beer bars or agogos. Nighttime entertainment is concentrated in casinos and karaokes. Just like the Chinese love it.

They can massage good. Thats a good start. I love massages so if they do that good wins me over 50%.

Boten, Northern Laos has the BladeRunner vibe, except that it's mostly an abandoned ghost town of unfinished buildings.  The most desolate place I've ever been to, including Chernobyl.

 

Don't recall any under age sex workers there. The Lao are super strict on that. I recall someone handing me a anti-grooming flyer on a bus. I asked, "why isn't this printed in Chinese on the back too?". The guy laughed and winked.

 

Here's the usual yearly article claiming that Boten is on the uptick. They think Chinese people will want to go there "to experience Lao Village Life" -which would be a much more downscale version of Chinese village life. Worst vacation ever.
