Your assumption Thailand will follow, is I believe, false.   Two completely separate markets with separate circumstances.   What kickstarted the EV revolution here was BYD & GW

I was just thinking about how much things have changed with EVs in the last couple of years. Prices have been dropping, and they’re still going down, but it’s not just about the price anymore. You also get way more features now — bigger batteries, faster charging, better tech all around. Like, two years ago, the idea of a 100 kWh battery running on 800V in a 1.5M THB car would’ve sounded crazy, but now it’s real.

So it makes me wonder… what’s going to happen in another two years? That’s kind of why I keep delaying my purchase. I get that people might say, “yeah but then you never enjoy the car,” which is true, but with the pace of these updates it feels like you’d buy one today and already want to replace it in a couple of years.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

You are right that when seeing all the price drops among the dozens and dozens of EV manufacturers and new EV/battery technology that is supposedly coming soon/just around the corner it can make a person wonder if they should buy now or wait another year or two.

My opinion now is the price-war, price-cutting is still underway at a slower pace BUT many manufacturers seemed to have throttled way back on price-cuts on most models...except the slower selling models..   Some of the smaller manufacturers are still price cutting aggressively in trying to gain market share from the big EV manufacturers, but as a whole the big name brands like BYD seem to have retreated from BIG price cuts occurring every few months.   In fact, BYD has raised some prices on some models in Thailand by around Bt20K over the last month or so.

IMO the price war/cutting "as a whole" has slowed down a lot in comparison to last year when "deep and frequent" price cuts were occurring not only in Thailand but even China.  And the price cuts got so aggressive in China that the CCP stepped in to contain the price war....put in more into a trench warfare type war vs blitzkrieg warfare.

When the BYD Seal came out nearly 2 years ago a bunch of us on the forum were discussing whether to pull the trigger and buy it or wait to see if something better came along.

The Seal is still available for sale but for less money and there are many more options now.

Do I regret buying when I did? Not at all. The car puts a smile on my face every time I get in it. I have stopped using domestic flights choosing to drive instead. I have 6 more years of warranty and free servicing and have no plans to sell it.

I had a list of things I wanted in an EV and the Seal ticked all the boxes.

My advice is make your own wish list and set a budget, then buy the one that matches it best.

EVs are good enough now, you don't need to wait for 1,000 km of range or 10 minute charging as you will probably never make use of them.

Easy mistake to make - I made it myself a long time ago and someone put me right.

The BYD Thailand site is basically years out of date and not used. You need to look for Rever Automotive as they are the official distributor and service provider for BYD in Thailand. All the models are on their site.

BYD really should make their old site redirect to Rever.

Major changes have taken place regarding supplier payments since June 1st 2025

AI Overview

Chinese automakers significantly extended payment terms to their suppliers, in some cases to over 180 days, using these extended payment periods as a form of working capital to fund the intensifying price war that began in early 2023.

China has implemented new regulations, effective June 1, 2025, mandating that large companies pay suppliers within 60 days, prohibiting non-cash payment coercion, and requiring timely payment for uncontested portions of invoices. Chinese automakers have pledged to adhere to these rules and shorten their payment cycles, which previously averaged 182 days, to improve supply chain health, especially in the competitive EV sector.

Anyone seen a Changli pickup truck in Thailand?

I haven't but you can order them off Alibaba for under Bt70K.   Maybe Shopee/Lazada will soon start selling them also.  😀

I wonder if the Dept of Land Transport (DLT) would even register one as being allowed on Thailand roads.   Maybe just allowed as some utility vehicle for farm, factory, business, etc., use?

Looks nice

BYD cancels plans to launch the BYD Shark 6 pickup truck in Thailand in 2026.

As for the BYD Shark 6, the brand's plug-in hybrid (PHEV) pickup truck, it is currently undergoing  homologation  certification, which is about to be completed. It will attempt to officially launch for sale by the end of 2025. However , because it is a model imported from China and has a tax rate of more than 30% , it makes pricing difficult.

Estimated selling price of BYD SHARK6 DM-O: 1,699,900 baht (imported CBU from China) | 1.5 Turbo Plug-in Hybrid

Regarding the production of other car models such as the Seagull and Atto 2 in Thailand, there are no production plans yet due to the problem of using domestic parts (Local Content) which must be more than 50%. This will require negotiations with suppliers. In the past, the Dolphin and Atto 3 were produced using shared parts, which was difficult due to the time and higher investment required to succeed. Therefore, if other car models were produced in the country and the selling price had to be set low, it would be very difficult.

BOI must have increased the local content requirements

There is some hard scratchy plastic, which is to be expected, but the seats are comfortable with nice bue stitching.

Did you see the video I posted a few days ago.

The car drives pretty well with great visibility.

I did around a corner test drive (long wait) .  Some of my observations:

Found it much a better drive than the Neta priced similarly when first introduced, EV car sure has improved the past 2 years and price.

The low regen setting was not felt at all, so smooth like a ICE car.  I will probably set to Medium to High for myself.

Interestingly the car has no internet connectivity, nor Chery/Jaecoo car mobile app. No Car Map app in the car monitor.

It has Bluetooth connectivity to your apple car play/android (not sure if I can play YouTube display on car monitor using my apple car play connectivity?)

No OTA for system upgrades, only dealer service item.

There was the option to set WLTP, which displayed on the driver monitor 450 KM (must be a mistake. i thought it was 400 Km, will know better in the future) and Dynamic setting at 100 % battery displaying 475KM .

V2L cable not included nor front dash camera.

1st class insurance only up to 80% coverage (i think)

My mate was planning to buy the cheaper Dynamic rather than splashing out another ฿50k on the Max, but they only had the Max to view and he felt it was a bit of a risk buying a car he hadn't seen.

I saw the slow charger (that you plug into a wall outlet) but didn't see a V2L cable.

I asked about the battery chemistry but my Thai clearly wasn't up to the challenge of asking about it.

According to AI "The Jaecoo 5 EV uses a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery"

I was in the passenger seat during the test drive and was able to try the 3 levels of regen. I agree the lowest level seems to be "off" but level 2 and 3 had quite a bit more, but according to the driver he couldn't detect much difference between them.

I was driving, with Bandersnatch sitting in the passenger seat.  The step between Level 1 and Level 2 is quite noticeable, with Level 2 regen being quite pronounced.  The step between Level 2 and 3 was less pronounced.

I assume this T-Box, is an application installed on my mobile , perhaps it is Box i attach to the usb port. This box is what is required to connect to internet. Not sure.

My TBox mobile  app will connect to Car via internet (thus require internet connectivity, sim embedded in the car. As I said, my salesperson has no clue that it has internet nor mobile  app. Thus also said no OTA for system upgrade, I guess when the car arrives, it will be apparent.

I did call in their service center but they are not prepared to service anyone, part of a new organization and learning the ropes. (my bad as seek help in English).  Just wait to get the car

Chery has been around for a while and has already launched Jaecoo and Omoda here under the Chery Group banner.

https://www.omodajaecoo.co.th/th/news-activities/chery-group-journey

Now Chery will launch its own models here, a new showroom being opened near me in Ayutthaya.

https://www.chery-thailand.com/

Has had a checkered past in the automotive business due to mainly quality issues, one of the two Chery manufacturing plants in Brazil  closed its doors in 2002 and Chery in Australia has a reputation as a budget and problematic vehicle.

Despite this it remains the 4th largest automotive manufacturer in China !
