Top 20 ( not sure why the difference for MG4 ? ).

  1. MG4 Electric 1,337 units (12.7% market share)
  2. BYD DOLPHIN 1,036 units
  3. BYD ATTO3 558 units
  4. GAC AION UT  501 คัน
  5. CHANGAN LUMIN 458
  6. ORA GOOD CAT 439 units
  7. DEEPAL S07 434 UNITS
  8. MG S5 EV 431 units
  9. BYD SEALION7 428 units
  10. OMODA C5 342 units
  11. TESLA MODEL Y 303 UNITS
  12. DEEPAL S05 272 UNITS
  13. GAC AION AND PLUS 261 คัน
  14. MG IM6 260 units
  15. JAECOO6 230 EVs
  16. MG EP 227 units
  17. NETA V 194 units
  18. TESLA MODEL 3 161 UNITS
  19. GEELY EX5 161 UNITS
  20. BYD M6 154 units

Dolphin top of the table for 2025 with MG4 2nd, followed by Sealion 7 then Atto 3.

BYD dominating the EV market here in Thailand with MG still in contention.

Interesting to see MG EP still selling at 22nd place for the year while the MG ES way down in 65th place.

Neta V still not showing any signs of its rumoured going bust problem.

Some might say that the price reduction war is affecting the sales figures, who knows ?

Your assumption Thailand will follow, is I believe, false.   Two completely separate markets with separate circumstances.   What kickstarted the EV revolution here was BYD & GW

As a BYD owner (an Atto model) I like taking a look at how BYD models registrations are trending.   One 3 month trend that caught my eye on the Year-To-Date chart was how the BYD Seal model has taken a healthy dip in registrations "for the last three months"...almost like Seal registrations fell off a cliff.

Wonder what the reason is?   Probably the BYD Sealion 7 and similar sedans similar to the Seal offered by other manufacturers bleeding off Seal sales?   Just a ton of competition in the market now.

See below partial snapshot of those BEVs that have registered sales of at least 1000 units for Year to Date and the BYD Seal registrations drop off.   After saying this Seal registration will probably shoot way up for next month.

Yes, these charts are quite interesting at times as some cars seem like they are out of favour then bounce back for no obvious reason.

Possibly a reduction or price rise will influence the figures but i don’t see that with the Seal, i think it has been the same price since the hefty reduction around a year ago. The only thing different i see recently is free window film but that is offset by a lack of free wall charger/installation.

The Sealion 7 is an obvious replacement but could it be MG IM appearing on the scene or Deepal S05, MG S5, Omoda E5 or even Aion UT !! ( like you say, some pretty healthy competition appearing recently ! ).

Whatever the reason it will become clearer over the next couple of months, or not …. but then we are getting close to the Motor Show and the sales/registration figures get distorted as potential buyers are waiting to see what’s new and what they look like in the flesh !!

My wallet is safe, until there is a local Riddara dealer.  At present, only MG dealer here, and don't expect any others making an appearance any time soon.  City populations 26k, Amphur only 90k.

MG didn't arrive until after we bought ours @ Hua Hin.   BYD just arrived and only in Krung Thep.  Closest is Pranburi, 65 kms away.

Yeah, i like to keep up to date with the latest in the EV world but have no inclination to change, am happy with my choice and will keep it as long as possible, may well be my last car !! ( although getting in and out of the Seal is not for the elderly so might go for a more elevated vehicle if necessary ).

Plenty of temptation here in Ayutthaya though, within a couple of km’s there are all the usual suspects showrooms ( Honda, Toyota, Isuzu, Suzuki, MG, BMW and Mitsubishi etc) plus some recent additions, Deepal, Jaecoo/Omoda, GWM,  Geely and Chery ! Just missing Aion ( GAC ), Neta and Zeekr.

Ironically BYD is the furthest away at 5 km with another 18 km away.

Seems to be always some mini motor show going on in the local mall or Central and EV’s usually outnumber the ICE cars by 4 or 5 to 1 .

That's why we got the MG ZS instead of the EP , even though same specs & 180k cheaper.  I don't slide into a sedan like I used to.   Getting in/out of the ZS is a breeze, even though it's a small SUV.

Wouldn't mind adding the RD6 to the carport, as wife would never sell the ZS.   But closest dealers are Ratchaburi or Chumphon.  It's a really nice truck, and decent price, without any competition.

@KhunLA @Andrew Dwyer

Please don't discount buying a Toyota ICE/Hybrid/EV in the near future as there are many YouTube videos proclaiming Toyota has just invented a new, revolutionary hydrogen-powered engine, a new solid state battery, etc....etc.....etc....that will be released very soon (always just around the corner) and will kill-off all other EVs.  Those are factual, not anti-EV, not Toyota-sponsored videos, right?    Mr Toyota thanks you for your attention and future business, however, he will not accept your old EV as a trade-in.    😀😁

Along with a promise the wheels won't fall off.   If you're really lucky, it might even be the same version of the car they submitted for safety crash testing, or not :cheesy:

BYD is the new Toyota.

Toyota is still king in Thailand. BYD seems to have lost its shine, only the budget dolphin is selling well lately. BYD Seal sales have really fallen off a cliff...even after the big price reduction.

Just a couple of points on the Seal:

230 max power = 313 horsepower and the price is down to around 1.1 million baht.

Even better and leaves enough pocket change to have solar installed :coffee1:

Get to save ~10k THB on electric for the home, and no PEA/MEA charging cost ❤️

You’re right, well spotted.

While not yet available in Thailand ( and no guarantees it will be ) an interesting look at the “ all-new BMW iX3 “

Much hyped on all the usual car reviews there has to be some Marmite ( you either love it or hate it ) moments.

Now while the side is nice imho albeit very minimalist the front might cause some gasps !!

IMG_7321.jpeg.79429ca909d82f7ee59009d4bd61258b.jpeg

No chrome to be seen except on the wheels, first job would be to get some black rims or get the spray can out !

Those 2 x kidneys in the centre are radical to say the least, presumably 1 houses the charging port ? Should they be illuminated ?, I would prefer not.

I do like the rear though, those lights are hard to miss if braking or indicating  ( yes ! indicating in a BMW !! ).

IMG_7324.jpeg.5bf3a210e656e2612d2aa3569cf2d4c6.jpeg

But it is the inside where the designer has gone all out to impress/shock !

First impressions is , what is going on with that screen ??

IMG_7316.jpeg.642b899a6f17396b6b4844d18e400122.jpeg

Picasso lives !!, definitely an eye catching 6 sided screen but is it in a good way !!

That and the steering wheel are a step too far imho !!

IMG_7315.jpeg.bc1810598138549b98ae76e547637fd5.jpeg

Now the all white interior is certainly not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, hopefully there are options ?

The goal was to make this car cheaper than it’s predecessor ( starts at £59k ) but at what cost ?

No leather in this car, seats are recycled plastic bottles !

Would take me a while to get used to this:

IMG_7318.jpeg.cb3f9516d8fa5edfbb305a1cf8fe19e7.jpeg

But there are some good points:

The panoramic display which goes all the way across the bottom of the window and has 6 customisable widgets, keeping the info you want easily visible without fiddling with the centre screen. The usual HUD also displays above it.

The rear seat splits into 3 for more options in load carrying.

The parcel shelf has a dedicated storage space under the boot floor for those times you need to remove it.

Vehicle to load, Vehicle to home and Vehicle to grid all available.

AWD with 470 HP and 645 Nm torque.

Personally I prefer understated designs to what is presented here but maybe the claim of 500 miles ( 800 km ) range is enough to sway you, but we already know about range claims !!

Yeah, there are lots of claims of advanced technology in this car but is it really worth it when you have to drive with your eyes closed ??

Overtecnologicicized. Same with my Lambo.

They did a wrong-un when they stopped cars being able to start with a starting handle.

Just peeked at the MG IM6 ... that's really nice.   And sits higher & wider than our ZS, so I have no problem getting in/out of.    Not a fan of it being longer than ours, as the ZS is easy parking.  The IM6 will park it self ... 🙄

 https://www.mgcars.com/th/cars/mg-im6

Wife wants it bad, but I doubt we'd get ฿400k for the ZS, since the S5 is ฿700k.   Told her better use of ฿1M, would be buy land for ฿1M, in five years sell for ฿2M, and get the car for almost 'free'.

Coincidently, chit chatting to neighbor just happens to want ฿380k for lot on our soi.   Knows I won't agree to more than ฿350k, so rings her up, and now buying for ฿340k :cheesy:

Anyone looking for nice SUV in the ฿1M+ range, needs to peek at the IM6 before buying anything else.  Comes with that 'lifetime battery warranty'.

"Honey, our car does the same, just a little bit slower ... AND ... will be a 'classic' in 17 ish more years."

IM6 vs ZS ...

... 0 – 100 km./h. in 3.48 seconds - don't need

... more range - don't need

... more techy - more chance of repair

... faster charger - I won't even be done my coffee :coffee1:

Nice, logical rebuttal for not buying an IM6.

But it's probably just noise to the wife's ears.  Update us when you put a deposit down on the IM6 and the color the wife picked.😉😉😃

She tells me the same, when I mention the Riddara RD6.   Cargo bed isn't long enough to sleep in, so we don't need.  Her saving grace is, no Riddara dealer near us.   MG dealer is only about 3kms away.

She's practical when it comes to frivolous spending, more CC then me, and a plus is, she loves the ZS.  "IF you buy the RD6, we ain't selling the ZS" :cheesy:

Quick comparison of SUV base models ...

Price;    IM6 ฿1,399,900 ... ZS getting phased out as BEV

I just called your wife to tell her by getting the IM6 she can cut road time in half since the IM6 is twice as fast as the ZS (or S5)....this will leave more time to explore the places traveled to.  I told her you have the specs to show her.   That  bit of info pretty much allowed her to decide on getting the IM6....only remaining decision to make now is whether to get a pink or beige one.....you might want to suggest your preferred color before she decides.  Good luck.  😜

Just to point out, the IM6 in China is actually called the LS6 and it was updated recently. Basically, here in Thailand we still have the previous version. The update in China also introduced an EREV version, much more luxurious interiors, and several other improvements.

Another very interesting point, which may have gone unnoticed, is that Zeekr will soon start assembling cars in Malaysia. Once this is up and running, maybe we will see more competitive pricing.

And on top of that, within the next year we’ll see updates across various models from many brands, along with new market entries – so we definitely won’t be getting bored.
