The body of an unidentified man with gunshot wounds was found floating in Klong Wang Yai in the Saphan Sung district of Bangkok yesterday morning, May 16th, expected to be dead for about 2-3 days.

Police Major Colonel Apiwat Sinpru and officers from the Prawet Police Station arrived at the scene at around 9:00 AM. after being notified of a murdered Thai national at the end of Soi Krungthep Kreetha 27.

Upon arrival, the male body, expected to be about 30-35 years old, was found floating above the water, wearing a plaid shirt and blue long jeans. The authorities assumed that he was dead for about 2-3 days.

yea, that's what it says.

If "unidentified"  how can they assert the body as belonging to a "Thai national" ?

A. Dead bodies in the water usually tend to sink at first, but later they tend to float, as the post-mortem changes brought on by putrefaction produce enough gases to make them buoyant.

Happy?

Yep, that's what happens when internal gasses build up.

English is obviously not the first langauge of the writer of this article. So many grammar mistakes. Floating above the water ? How else do things float ? Things do not float below the water.

expected to be dead for about 2-3 days. " should read " Estimated to have been dead for about 2-3 days "

The authorities assumed that he was dead for about 2-3 days. " The authorities assumed that he had been dead for about 2-3 days. "

The writer was either a Thai using Googe translate or an ex pat they dragged from a bar to write this article.

Most Filipinos speak better and more understandable English than the British and Aussies I met in THailand. Imagine you meet somebody from  Manchester, Newcastle or Glasgow even the native English speakers would ask for a translator ????

Mancunians speak very clear English it’s their cousins on the other side of the Pennines who are the problem !!

I thought  the shotgun  blast would have created holes allowing  the gas to leak  out

Don't take it personal ???? Geordies? Translated it does mean somebody from the New Castle area? Visited that place a couple times while in the (not UK) military. Trained in Otterburn a couple times a year and on our day off we had the choice between Newcastle and Edinburgh. Visited both a couple times. Would like to visit the area again. Salisbury was another nice place on our day off it was London.

Having been in the UK military for over 12 years I have mixed & socialised with all UK accents, I don't need a translator to talk with anyone no matter where they hail from in the UK.

Since the story is written in English, I would assume it's translated like the story !!

Same over here, after 11 years in the military you pick all different dialects. In my case, I even became more fluent in two extra languages being based in other parts of the country. After working in tourism for almost 30 years I have the same thing with English and French.

Maybe his tattoos that were mentioned were in Thai script?

The report didn't say that the tat was in English.

Please understand that my comments on this thread were purely made in jest.

However, if we're going done this road, then allow me to suggest that it is not unknown for someone to get a tattoo in a foreign language, although probably less likely among Asian ethnicities !  (adds smiley for clarification purposes) ????
