Could someone tell me what the actual law is on “cannabis”

Under current Thai law, the recreational use of highly potent marijuana is still forbidden, and tourists convicted of possessing the drug can face up to 15 years in prison.

Thailand’s campaign started with a 2019 law that allowed the use of marijuana for medical purposes, a first for Southeast Asia. The rules now allow for the sale of cannabis with a low percentage of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, weed’s main psychoactive compound.

The mass plant-distribution project is scheduled to take place starting next month and will allow residents to grow medical-grade (that is, low-THC) marijuana without government permission. Large-scale businesses will need a permit.

Since marijuana has been taken off the “narcotics” list, does that mean a modification in legal penalties for posession?  This would surely impact many people now sitting in jail for pot offenses.

According to all credible accounts, after June 9th it will be legal to grow cannabis plants.    "Extracts" containing more than .02% THC will continue to be illegal.    No doubt more laws an

0.2% is the limit for extracts (shatter, dabs, hash, oils), there is no limit set on the plants. If there were, they wouldn't be able to grow medicinal cannabis which is normally 1-2% CBD and 20% THC.

They are cannabis  cafes selling coffee and life style ideas.  They are NOT like the Amsterdam cannabis  cafes where  you can buy real dope as oil, hash, grass  etc.

and many are cheating and including a lot more than 0.2% THC.. OK these may not be 1000 mg Joey Diaz specials like some California dispensary but they use code like 'full spectrum extract' to indicate thc included even with regular online ordering platforms (lazada shopee etc).

Wife bought some off a lazada store, branded product etc marked 'full spectrum' and it definitely had THC content.  Locally to me there's very open businesses offering oils, gummys, brownies etc and its potent. The effective control is definitely lax.

1000s are being released for exactly that reason.

It is no longer a narcotic on June 9th.. But none of the laws have even been debated let alone written and passed. Can you sell it ?? Who too ?? What licensing is needed for supply ?? What controls will be in place.. Everything from Asprin on up has some form of controls and rules, this will be no different. It not being illegal wont be the whole story.

What is sure is that home growing for your own medical needs (cooking etc) will not be illegal in 30 hours.

2 parts per thousand.

Every weed is above that, the minimum average is 4% on outdoor strains already.

The actual point is that it is no longer on the narcotic list and if you do get issues for personal use, it will never be that bad. It never was already, usually a 3-5K court fine but can be a lengthy procedure with a lot of stress in between.

We can now look forward at more cheap bribes with police instead. And no serious worries at all.

Not every weed is above that. Specifically industrial hemp which is what the are approving has a thc level around 0.2 %

https://research.georgiasouthern.edu/researchintegrity/cannabis-research/#:~:text=Industrial hemp refers to cannabis,%2C food%2C and manufacturing).

A lot of comments on this forum are written by people that have no knowledge of growing cannabis. So you get an endless cycle of ignorance and repeated ignorance.

The exact details of the law appear to be the same as the UK law.

Which is, don't draw attention to yourself, don't carry commercial quantities, and nobody will bother you.

Yes you are right i believe,if it was only for plants with less than 0.2% they would not have send over 3000 people home from the prisons today.

I see the new TAT advertising already!

Come to (T)highland!

I guess that should make it pretty clear. Anything except producing or possessing extract is allowed and totally legal now.

It's a bill that passed house to be enacted into laws, it passed with flying colors (as any other bill in rubberstamp-land does) 373 MPs voted in support of the bill, with 7 against. 23 MPs abstained.

It is 0.20%, 0.002. 1% = 1 part per hundred so 0.1% = 1 part per thousand. Very little in other words, won't do much but give you a headache.

where can i buy a pre rolled joint or a bag of weed in BKK then? or space cake? anyone?

Your talking about the removal of cannabis from the narcotic list.. Which passed.. 120 days before June 9th. All that did was deregulate it as a scheduled narcotic.

The cannabis control act, which will have regulations on sales, licensing, etc etc etc.. Has not been drafted.. As you can read in many different sources including this one. Currently there is an absence of law and near free for all (only extracts hence any product made from or with cannabis) are regulated.

Incorrect, I'm talking about the actual decriminalization bill vote, that was held Wednesday 8th of June - not the initial passed vote 120 days before with much more vague wordings, but the actual first reading in the lower house, that will now then be enacted into laws after N more readings.

There's no distinction for "tourists"!
