Suspect slashes tires of another vehicle that parked too close to him in Patong, gets a thousand baht fine

Patong – One thousand baht was fined to responsible parties after a conflict over parking in Patong this week.

 

The Patong Police reported on June 21st that a victim filed a police report after parking a car in front of a restaurant in Patong before going inside for dinner. After they finished dinner and came out the victim found that their car tires were slashed and flattened.

 

Police continued their investigation and identified the primary suspect.

Wrong about prices.  Many vehicles on tires costing less than 1000.

Oh wait.  The original artlcle says he agreed to fix the tires plus the fine.

Is the headline fair to say that the suspect slashed the tyres? Just thinking about the choice of words, if he's just a suspect, then we shouldn't say he did it. But if it's confirmed that he did it, shouldn't we use a different term to describe him? Oh hang on... the article doesn't even say what gender the suspect is!

Had 'the suspect' been foreign, or something else, would the report have described him/her/them more accurately?

If hes only a "suspect" why was he fined at all ?

It's a lot of maffia who is living there, one of the reason I leave that place too more than 12 years ago.

That time they destroy the paint of my car with scratches , because 'they' don't like I park my car there while visiting a doctor

So just how is going to fix the tires? With sidewalls slashed? It doesn't say how many tires were slashed. This is a small fine and if it happens to this guy again, he may do the same

Possibly the culprit  having to pay 1000 baht and fix the tyre considers that is money well spent. The so called innocent victim, who selfishly didn't or couldn't park appropriately hopefully was so inconvenienced has learned their lesson and next will park with consideration for others.  That's not justifying criminal activity, of course that is wrong, but sometimes in this life Karma is required to balance things out.

How do you know that the vehicle was not parked appropriately? All we know is that, in the opinion of the other person, it was parked too close. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't.

I wanted to do it yesterday....  

New motorbike (only 100km), the bike next to me had parked so close to mine (1” away)  couldn’t upright my bike to lift up the side stand...  It was a really awkward process to get my bike out of the space. 

 

This is not the first time this has happened... Some ayehole on a beaten up old piece of junk carelessly parks it ridiculously close to my bike.

 

In this case (the article) it seems the some entitled group of pr!cks don’t want someone parking in a space they believe they own...  the behaviour of beach mafia etc and its been going on uncontrolled for decades.

I suspect the ‘didn’t park properly’ really means parked in an area the beach mafia guys consider they own and want to save for their queueing Songthaews or in front of a restaurant or shop where the owner believed they own the road in front of their shop etc...  

(this may not be the case, but its a common issue in Thailand).

Try reading the whole report from the Phuket Express, especially the part where the culprit agrees to pay for the damages.

I read the article several times and can't see where the suspect agreed to fix the tyres 

I do see where the suspect said he was afraid his car would be scratched, as he considered the victim parked too close to him.

I also see that the victim is reported not to wish to press charges, but the suspect was fined B1000 for causing a nuisance.

At what point does a suspect become a perpetrator?

I agree with you, poor use of language from news reporters who specialise in language. They should have said perpetrator not suspect he is not suspected of it he has admitted to doing it therefore no longer suspected but proven as perpetrator.

Police continued their investigation and identified the primary suspect. The suspect admitted to the crime because they were disappointed that the victim parked their car too close to the suspect’s car. The suspect was afraid that their car might be scratched and lost their temper, slashing the tires of the other vehicle.

 

However, the victim does not want to take legal action against the suspect. The suspect agreed to pay for the tire damages and was fined 1,000 baht for causing nuisance.

 

Both parties shook hands after the disagreement and put aside their differences.

Law enforcement did not release the names of the individuals involved.

Last time there was "coincidentally" a tire repair guy just 10 feet away.

Let me give you a simple hint. Far more effective and a greater inconvenience then slashing tyres, where a motorbike is concerned, is to simply squirt superglue in the key slot. Its very quick to do drawing negligible attention and makes the lock useless if the owner is away from his bike more than 5 mins. requires a new lock and if the owner returns sooner than inspected and drives off he can not remove his key and still needs a new lock.  So just keep a tube of superglue in the seat of your bike for those special occasions,
