on a one hand, Thailand want to turn this and that into 'hubs' to attract more tourists and on the other it takes a big gun and shoot its self in the foot...

How will this work with foreign tourists who need a hotel would have to book on Agoda or Booking.com?  Will the hotel rates be adjusted?

 

Those in country, as pointed out earlier, would only need a Thai name to book.

 

It appears to me that this idiotic plan will be directed to only telephone calls to the hotel.

Well, as I see it, doesn't effect me much, as I have a rental,

It's a bit like the national parks, you have a choice to simple not go.

However, the genuine tourist is, unless booking over Airbnb or similar, will be affected, and little choice to avoid the charge, unless choose a different country.

Honestly, I didn't read the full article, but I understood, there have been discounts to boost the industry. The only means I can imagine where the government can be involved, are tax releases for hotel operators. It's not wrong per se to admit discounted prices during hard times for the locals of a country. However, a dual price scheme has a bitter taste if others find out. 

If I'm in charge, I would rather give away vouchers to be spent for accommodation, parks, restaurants, or whatever.

Absolute blatant racism. My solution will be to have the Wife book the hotel in her name. Then wait and see if the hotel sees her surname as a Farang, and tries to charge her more.

We already do as swampy above mentioned. I get a price, then the wife goes in, gets a price, then I follow her and pass the money over. The looks on the faces are PRICELESS.......

Sadly there are elements of real truth in those words. 

 

I do however hope that there have been some translation errors in the reporting of this story. Otherwise it makes no sense. My instinct tells me discounts under the 'We travel together' scheme (in whatever form it becomes) will continue to offer discounts to domestic tourists, but not foreign tourists. 

 

Rather than domestic being offered normal prices and foreigners offered a more expensive premium price for hotel rooms. 

 

I feel that this story has been badly and inaccurately reported, but then again very little surprises me in Thailand anymore.

I don't think agdda, booking and all hotel platforms would allow such policy on their websites.

Tourists will switch from hotels to airbnb, also on agoda and booking privet renting accommodation can be selected - their owners are not forced to follow governmental rules on renting.

 

This policy of dual pricing in hotels suppose to run already in thailand, according to some, but I have never came across it.

I do stay in the cheapest possible guesthouse in the area, because only those places would allow my dogs in the room without extra charge (or with a minimal charge some 100b/dog)

I can only say this Thailand , I’m an American expat retired in Thailand, I love Thailand , It’s Culture , People and Food ????  However as an American ???????? When you visit my home your certainly NOT !! Dual priced on ANYTHING !! We have been slowly moving out of a Pandemic and now with Inflation at our doorstep  and with Thailand ???????? Largely dependent on Tourism in my opinion your just driving a nail into your own coffin ,

My flights with Cathay allow unlimited changes in dates or destination.

Anywhere else in SE Asia is still a possibility.

If Thailand wants Duel Pricing on everything, I can change destination.
