Most Thais now prefer to remove their face masks in specific locations, according to a recent survey by the Department of Health Service Support, as Thailand relaxes mask wearing requirements.

The online survey, which gathered opinions of 7,507 people between June 17th and 30th, revealed that 62.8% prefer to take off their masks in specific places, while 0.9% prefer not to wear them at all. 36.3% still prefer to keep their masks on.

Locations where they prefer to remove their face masks include entertainment venues (12.53%), cinemas (10.35%), shopping centres (9.79%), markets (8.95%) and on public transport (8.78%).

Yet, few appear to know what the reality might be.

So, it's all moot regarding the highly angst self-righteous face covering monitors.

Markets seem to be the only real worry there.  Even though they are outside, people go form person to person nattering.  If they do this without a mask, it's going to increase spread.  Many outbreaks/super spreaders came from markets.

If covid is that dangerous for you, probably best to keep your distance from the non-masked.  Approaching someone not wearing a mask and telling them that them not wearing a mask is dangerous to you now that you've approached them is probably not going to change anyone's mind.

That must be it.  Not racism and Thai Supremacy beaten into some of them from birth...

They never really did.

As for masks, as long as you’ve got yours on, what’s your problem?

Can add motorbikes as places Thai prefer to wear masks ( not helmets).

Both of which are pointless and speak to a mindset of ignorance and irrational fear

This UK study on schools is an interesting insight into humans.

The study shows no statistical difference between schools that wore masks v those that didn’t (consistent with a recent Omicron observation in California). BUT 70% of people felt safer with them on.

So we are a world full of Linus’ with masks not doing much in general use but making the anxious feel better ????????‍♂️????

Must have been the same guy I spoke to in the car park having a cigarette. I mentioned that his cigarette smoke could kill me as he was taking a drag  He just shrugged his shoulders.

I also respectfully suggest that you are a little less thinned skinned and do not worry about who may or may not respect you. People who disrespect me simply get no respect in return.

It's not about Angst but common sense and science. Covid is spreading! So keep your masks on.

Even you can protect your grumpy farang face. ????

The true revelation is how many of them (on motorcycles) were wearing helmets…

Moaning about someone having a cigarette outside.

What a laugh some people are.

Also reckon some people are very selective of whom they say stuff like that to. :cheesy:

In the land of Up To You isn't it just that...Up To You?

99 % of Thais still wearing them in Central Bangkok and 80 % of farangs.

Could be 10 years before the masses take them off.

Flew from London yesterday and no longer compulsory on Thai Air.

I live north of CM and everyone is wearing their mask. Covid is all over the place, many people that get it just buy some test kits and go home and give it to their family and it just keeps spreading.

Yes... Reading this, I'm asking myself was the survey of farangs or Thais.  Since the lifting of the mask mandate I've been from Tayong to Ubon and have yet to see any real sign if masks being g dropped outside of farangs.  In my village park, neigh outs had relaxed their mask usage, but in the past week it's back to 99% usage.  So I've put mine back on, too.  It's how I get along with the neighbours and why I'm liked in the village.

I still see every Thai on a motocy passing my place wearing a mask.

Same for those walking on the sidewalks.

Sidewalks ? Interesting concept. Is that in Thailand ?

From your article

Susan Hopkins, chief medical adviser at UKHSA, said: "We support the Department for Education's decision to reintroduce the use of face masks in secondary schools temporarily whilst Covid rates remain high."

From the Australian CMO today.

Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly has encouraged Australians to wear masks in most settings, but governments have stopped short of declaring mandates.

Westerners have become quite selfish in modern times..... and there is a strong sense of freedom and not accepting being told what to do. More sad is they bring this with them when they travel.

If I do not see masks about me I am not bothering as much myself, and am forgetting to carry one more often. Certainly if I were in a market and a majority aroujnd were masked, I would be wearing one too... it would be considerate.
