Thai doctors say marijuana is a "danger" to society - call for immediate liberalization U-turn

Enough said!

The doctors here dont even seem to understand the dangers of not following the correct protocols of prescribing antibiotics,  How the hell would they know the dangers of cannabis use??

Probably the same way they know of the medical benefits? Or is that also something they know nothing about?

Around 50,000 patients are legally allowed to use marijuana in Thailand as all users must have either a prescription or doctor’s certificate clearly stating the reasons for use.

I knew this sounded too good to be true. Hysterics and “reefer madness” experts rule the rhetoric.

There is always a way for Thailand to take two steps forward and five steps back.

The doctors are making the perfectly valid point that just because the government has come out and claimed that cannabis use is for "medicinal purposes only," without any actual policies in place to control access to marijuana, use is going to be widespread and unrestricted, and they are calling for a rollback of the decriminalization until such policies are in place.

Google translation of a quote from the doctor's statement:

"...there is no policy to control the use of cannabis comprehensively and safely. Therefore, the liberal use of recreational marijuana is widespread. This leads to access to cannabis use by children and young people, which is wrong with the liberal cannabis policy that the government and its stakeholders have claimed to want more people to have access to medical cannabis. In addition, the liberal use of marijuana without medical indications has a strong scientific evidence that affect the body and brain growth in children and very young. The current situation is therefore considered a short-term threat to the public health system and public health"

The government wanted it to be just for medical use.

Not true. That is just a pretense. Bhumjai Thai knows the big money is in recreational and that is what they are profiting from now.

Doctors can be considered a menace to society with their widespread doling out of antibiotics and anti depressants. The fact that they carry out blood  tests for the police leading to people being imprisoned is a disgrace.

The whole industry is dedicated to dependence over cure. Yet we take whatever these people say about natural immunity and cures, and obviously viruses and vaccines at face value.?

You can start from here and google for more, especially the terrible effect it has on young people's brain development and other effects

Thanks "Doc" now is that a threat to public health or a threat to the individual? Cos as a doc you would be all over what a public health issue is and not just show me one study that says smoking is bad for your health.

I could also toss up plenty of studies showing the benefits of cbd, thc terpenoids and other cannanaboids but that isnt a public health issue either.

This is old, and out of date, and no longer accurate.

In December 2018, the use of marijuana for medicinal and research purposes was legalised in Thailand. What is out of date exactly?

That so called doctor don't have nothing to say about alcohol and cigarettes

He better keep quiet

A stop the hypocritical view

Redicilos

Anybody can buy as much alcohol as they wish. But apparently the doctor don't see that as a problem

How much does he get paid for taking lies?

I have never visited a doctor that is for alcohol consumption or cigarette smoking. Regardless of the benefits, or problems, of wide-spread marijuana availability in Thailand, the real problem was there was no public discourse or planning before an "out of the blue" decision by Anutin was announced. The police, hospitals/doctors, politicians, and regular citizens were all surprised.

These people are so tiring, like only in Thailand you get a golden goose after having killed the previous 3 ones, to then kill it again right before tons of jobs, revenue and help to farmers if exploiting the plant on both medicinal, industrial and recreative use.

Let's be honest, aside of most people here having the IQ of 60 ish, there is lobby money causing this nonsense again. Even dumb farangs here are considered smart.

Imagine these doctors decide your faith too....

totally agree with the OP

Not much, if any, opinion was really given in the OP's post.  With what are you agreeing exactly?

"Some were caught off-guard by the lapse in [regulations] etc"  or ?

I'm struggling to find any opinion in the article with which to agree or disagree.

Edit: Ok. Obviously, you must mean the opinion from the doctors. Never mind.

more folks with brain fog driving cars ,,,oh great thats progress

You mean the 70 people daily who die in traffic here, which is mainly caused by alcohol? But let's believe the thaksin <deleted> and go back in time to call reefer madness.

The same people who killed many innocent drug users and caused over crowded prisons to this date.

"As usual a thought bubble becomes law before it's thought through but in Thailand  money is number 1"

This is the heart of the problem. How can anyone expect a positive outcome when a substance that has been banned and disparaged for years is suddenly decriminalized?  The use of cannabis needs to be codified regardless of how you feel about it.

Poor you. Mommy didn't let you try when you were younger? So you base your opinion on something you don't know, nor understand? Maybe you think booze is better.

@bkk6060 What are you confused about this time? Let me guess, you are clueless to what happened in TH so far?

Go back in time to my posts, I all told you this would happen. Seems I was the only one who could read what the law said.

Doctor bashing. Not a good look, people.

The Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University has long been regarded as Thailand's most prestigious medical school.

Not at all, the law clearly states medicinal use only. It is everyone else who just decided for themself what is legal.

Regardless it is BS comments from the 'doctors', they are clueless. If they had any brains they would prefer people smoking weed than drinking.
