Four armed robbers force wealthy French man and wife to lie on floor in 2M+ nighttime robbery in NE

Thai Rath reported on a robbery by four armed men at the home of a wealthy French man with a Thai wife in Ban Non Pa Chat, Nong Chim sub-district in Chaiyaphum north eastern Thailand.

 

Reporters at the scene said that the house is 3 kilometers from the village and quiet and lonely at night.

 

Police were on the scene and had taken Stephan S., 55, and his wife Warisa, 32, to the police station for questioning. Other officers were examining CCTV in the area leading to the one story, three bedroom property.

 

The media further reported that a friend of the couple staying with them had disappeared.

 

Buntham, 75, the Thai woman's father said that his daughter had just come back from France on the 23rd and on the 25th they had all been eating and drinking at the house.

 

At midnight the party dispersed.

 

Two robbers got in via the master bedroom window and ordered the French man and his wife to lie facedown on the floor.

 

They were told not to resist.

 

Two more men also armed then joined them and rifled through the house stealing 100,000s of baht in Euros, three watches and Thai baht. He thought it was worth at least 1.5 million.

Meanwhile a report by Daily News (describing the French man as a millionaire in a picture caption) had some differing details.

 

They said that the French man is the owner of a watch business in Switzerland and that his wife is Waritsa, 39, and the couple had been staying at the house with their child and another relative. 

 

They reported that 6 watches were stolen and the total haul was worth 2,269,900 baht.

 

Nern Sagna district police are investigating.

A dog or 2 would simply end up dead.  You would still get robbed.

Property seems very exposed but I suspect this was an inside job !

I was thinking about upgrading my dwellings to something better, but no thanks. I'll just stay in my 4,500B/month two bedrooms house and ride a bicycle wearing T-shirts with a few holes here and there...

My first thought was how much did the wife owe the loan sharks? The second was did she set her brother up to do it. Call me negative but living ten years in Thailand does that to you. Whatever the case the poor husband probably oblivious to any wrong doing

Take up skeet shooting. About once every two weeks launch a few and bang, bang, bang. 

No local is ever coming as they will all know the owner has a shotgun.  That and an electric fence.

Same scenario as living near BIRA racetrack.

while you are at it you can continue pretending its a choice.

If he wanted to show off make sure you have security or make sure  you don,t keep your things not protected.But hard to protect your wife and stuff when they have guns pointing at you.Also look at family or neighbours who may know something

It confuses me why people become negative living in Thailand. I see so many sad, negative foreigners, everyday. 

How is it possible, maybe these negative people were born negative or they haven't managed their lifestyle, failed marriage, losing wealth due to failed business etc., what's going on. 

 

Thailand has been my home for over 20 years, I've never been a negative person, my positive attitude grows every day, I'm a very lucky guy to have the opportunity to live in this beautiful country.

All four armed? That surprised me. Then I remembered the case where that Swiss guy managed to overpower a night time intruder and the intruder ended up dead. Sounds like these guys weren't taking any chances.

I doubt this was planned and executed by your average village yoyo. As usual, in Thailand, done by someone has had some training... not mentioning any names or organizations

I remember when I first came here and built a house. Every single thing we would buy Mrs post straight away on Fakebook. Go on holidays etc. Just advertising you aren't home and possibly 500km away. Why Facebook is so huge here. Showing off and jealousy. In the end I had to tell her if we went away or left the house don't post until we are back home. I wonder if his missus was on FB fanning the Euro's out or with it displayed on a temple Xmas tree thing they so love showing off the money

if he had a dog the thiefs would just kill the dog first.

 

No amount of security will stop a burglar getting into your property if he really wants something.

I agree. And to organize and motivate a relatively large number of fellow robbers (4) who were all armed suggests that they were had extremely reliable info about how much loot was in the house.

As for keeping large amounts of money lying around in your home .... never a good idea in any country.

correct,  a decent 2.5m concrete block perimeter fence and iron gates would be a good start. 

Plenty of trees to block out an easy house view,  maybe a few false guard dog signs outside,  a few cameras high up in tree branches that are unreachable ..
