‘Joe Ferrari’ seeks to withdraw his appeal against conviction for killing suspect

The mother of convicted police officer Thitisan Uttanaphon, aka “Joe Ferrari”, has asked the court for the withdrawal of an appeal against her son’s conviction, claiming that her son has repented for the crime he committed and is ready to face the prison term.

 

Responding to the move, lawyer Sittra Biabungkerd said in his Facebook post today (Thursday) that he does not believe that the former superintendent of Nakhon Sawan’s Muang district police had actually repented, claiming that he had received a threat on his life last month.

 

Sittra publicly exposed a video, leaked by a police whistleblower, showing Thitisan and his subordinates using several plastic bags to cover the head of drug suspect Jirapong Thanapat during an interrogation at the police station on August 5th last year. The victim fell unconscious and was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy later showed he died of suffocation.

Sittra further said that the move to withdraw the appeal was a process which may lead to Thitisan being granted a royal pardon, which would reduce his actual prison term to just 5-7 years from life.

 

Another scandal with the Thai 'justice' system here.

I'm not sure if a peasant had committed such a crime would be offered the same pardon.

I would suggest that he is a peasant for the atrocity that he carried out and therefore should get no pardon, repentant or not!

The twists and turns of the Thai justice system are quite amazing and in some ways predictable. 
Connections and money are the main factors, nothing unusual, simply buying your way out of trouble is normal.

I might add that Thailand isn’t the only country that practices this, seems like the anything and anyone can be bought worldwide.

Ah, yes, this guy is no fool. 

 

He knows if he's alive and in jail, a pardon will surely be granted down the line. 

 

Sadly, I read about too many pardons, these bad eggs are out in a few years walking the streets.

Absolutely correct. In the US, if you have 3 or 4 million dollars to buy a good legal team, you can get away with murder. Think O. J. Simpson.

It didn't work for Jeffrey Epstein!   The theatrics with the glove, that actually  shrunk from the blood and time, coupled with OJ not taking his meds allowed his hands to swell to not fit.  So, if the glove dont fit, was enough  to make doubt, and thats why he walked from criminal court.   In the civil court, and public opinion everyone knows he was guilty

That seems about right.  The Red Bull guy will never serve a day, and his money has allowed him a great life wherever he is.  Being a Thai he probably  made merit in his way, and doesn't  even have a guilty conscience.

And keep his mouth shut about any graft/whatever that floated upwards from his ill gotten gains. Joe tells what he knows and there'll need to be a lot of pardons.

So the fix is in. A few years detention (albeit in discreet and comfortable facilities with no doubt flexible parole arrangements ) and then a pardon.

He has to serve a certain part of his sentence before becoming eligiable for a Royal Pardon

I can't understand how your mother can appear in court for you and cancel your appeal. Surely this must be done in person so that the judge knows it is actually what Joe wants.

 

Joe seeking a royal pardon is great news as well. He obviously deserves a royal pardon....he's only committed murder, that all.

As predicted, the fix is in. He will likely do little, if any, jail time. There will probably be images on TV of him entering prison by the front door, but none of him immediately thereafter exiting through the back door.

Try to imagine what the average Thai must think/feel?

We can move on and leave this two tier society behind us, a Thai can't!
