Hello,

I left Thailand during COVID and left my car on a parking. The management wants me to remove my car so I sent my girlfriend back to Thailand to take care of it.

I would like to gift the car to her but I'm outside Thailand and haven't been there in 2 years. When I was there I couldn't do it because they kept asking for the "residence certificate" but I couldn't get it because I travelled back and forth and needed to be there for 90 days straight.

Any idea how to transfer the car to her now that I'm outside of the country ? The only other solution would be to take it to a landfill which would make me really sad as the car is in perfect condition.

Thanks.

You have much easier two options:

1. Let her drive the car, while under your name, and to pay on your behalf any outstanding taxes or insurance

2. She can transfer the car into her name (for an additional fee)

In both cases, you need to send her a limited 'power of attorney' specific to the car.

Tell her she gets a free car if she can figure out how to transfer it.

She'll get if done in record time.

I gave my 9 year old truck to my housekeeper/nanny as a bonus when I left last year.

When I told her she would get the truck we were at the registration shop in about 2 minutes

Thanks, I'm interested, any agency or dealer that can help us with this ? With power of attorney she won't need my residence certificate to sell the car ? When I was there myself it was impossible to change the registration, I was told many times that I needed the residence certificate and they wouldn't give me one at the immigration unless I stayed for at least 90 days and had a TM30 filed.

Already did, she has no clue how to transfer it.

I don't think you need to be in country for 90 days to get Res Cert.

I was told that a 90 days report is necessary to get the residence certificate, which can only obtained if you are inside the country for 90 days straight, also needed the TM30... now I'm not even in Thailand, even more complicated.

Tell her to go to the registration shop, get the transfer of ownership paper and send it to you.

You can sign this and send it back along with a signed copy of your passport.

Does she have the blue book in her possession? If not mail it to her

She can also ask at the registration place what she needs. They do this every day

That should get the ball rolling
