Tax Filing Experience: Jomtien [March-2025]
Here's a link to the IRS website that mentions the saving clause. https://www.irs.gov/businesses/tax-treaties-can-affect-your-income-tax I think that for IRA distributions to be exempt from the application of the saving clause, the DTA would have to specifically state that. I don't think the US-Thai DTA does. I agree with Jim Gant's post above. The changes to the interpretation of the existing Thai tax regulations do nothing to negate the effect of the saving clause on one's US tax obligations. -

Hatred.
Good question Bob. There are three posters on here that I utterly despise but I think hate is too strong a word. I hasten to add, you are not one of them. I never thought I could feel such utter disdain for people I have never met. However, just from their posts I know I would have no time for them in real life. I have met people that have given the vibe that they have the same feeling for me. We can't all get on though, can we? I've decided to let it go. Generally, I don't like most people unless they give me a reason to think otherwise. I accept that the boot might be on the other foot aswell. I can live with that. Too many knobs about. I'm totally comfortable with my opinion and situation. It suits me well. Also, in response to part of your question, do we need to overcome it? Hate can be good as positive vibes can be focused elsewhere. Better than complete indifference. -

Dark chocolate
Some years ago I planted a number of cocoa trees. Most for fun, why not when I'm in a tropical climate suitable for cocoa. They grow were well and are now producing fruits. So next step was to read up on chocolate production. And buying necessary equipment to make chocolate myself. I have now made 40 batches of around 2 kg each and starting to get the feeling for it. Fermenting and drying the beans was the challenge in the beginning when I didn't have so large batches of beans. It was a test for fun, but as the production now exceeds my consumption by far there might be an opportunity for Wife to start a small business. We have given away most to friends, but increasing prices of cocoa butter make it difficult to continue without some money back. Cocoa butter was 400 bht per kg a year ago, now it's almost 2000. We could supply chocolate of various cocoa and sugar content to interested persons in small amounts. For batches of 2 + kg we can do them to order regarding % of cocoa and sugar or other ingredients. Not much profit in it mostly for fun. It takes around 5 hours work to produce a batch from beans to bar. Let me know if someone is interested. Cocoa fruits -

Wealthy Britons Flee to Italy and Greece Ahead of Tax Hike
As short sighted as the 20% VAT addition to private schools. This government seems to take every policy step in the opposite direction of 'sense'. -

DOGE Makes Its Latest Errors Harder to Find
Apparently, we all agree there it waste, overspending, and that it came from both parties over decades. But one side it trying to reduce/eliminate it, while the other side is nitpicking the accuracy of the reporting. What cuts have been made that you do not agree with? -

The Lefts Response to America & Trump:Tesla Terrorism and ….
No, it takes stupidity by a thin majority of American voters, many of whom have major buyer's remorse. The knuckle draggers are not exempted from the train coming down the line, unless they are rich, which is an oxymoron. Thanks for the admission he is a 34X felon.
