Why talk when you can just pull facial expressions ?

Please explain as I am confused.

Your post deserves a "confused" thingy.

Before it took one click to state the obvious now I have to do so many.

Unless this changes I will just not respond to any more posts.

Update: We can now also post a "thumbs up" or a "love it" emojii - you could not make this stuff up!

As we now have a "thumbs up" emoji why is there not a "thumbs down" emoji!

19 minutes ago, DezLez said:

Anybody have any definition as to what the difference is between the "thumbs up" and "like" means, are they not the same?

The difference is very subtle.

A "like" means the user likes, enjoys or supports certain content.

A "thumbs up" means the user supports, enjoys or likes certain content.

These are anonymous discussion forums where opinions can be given  .

Its not a work related task or test  or an exam at School , its a post on an anonymous forum which doesn't matter too much .

We are not part of a World Government here on ASEANNOW where our opinions are influential and has an major effect on the World

so wait ... you want to post controversial, unsubstantiated "opinions", and you are being "serious" and expect to not be laughed at. yeah right. ???? it's called trolling.

Gotta agree. And Farang-man is a guy who's averaging almost 3 reactions (overwhelmingly mostly positive, I'm sure) every single time he deigns to post. How much feedback does one man need?

I have a good ratio too, but nowhere near Board superstars like him and Britmantoo. I don't need to do market research on how I'm being received. If I'm funny or informative, I get the little heart clicks. If I'm not, I don't.

It's someone else's living room here. Their room, their rules. Fair enough.

You have lost me a bit .

What are these  "controversial, unsubstantiated "opinions"" that I want to post ?

I have lost track of what you are talking about , so please give example to get me up to date

Well I hope those missing emoji's find a good home. I know where I'd put them.

You and I have gone back and forth before and I have no preconceived notions that you will ever come over to the 'other side', but hey...you have a nice life (I couldn't care less as to whether you do or not).

I mean no disrespect, but I do not recall our interaction.

I'm assuming it was over some Trump BS. I no longer participate in political discussions here.

You have a nice life too (and I DO care, like, in that metta meditation way).

Just woke up to the new reactions.

Well done AN, lots of positive emoji's for me to send and the very best outcome...... no more annoying negative reactions for me to receive.

Now, to read all the comments from the glass half empty members who want their negative reactions back.

As I said in a previous comment, over the years I've only sent around 10 negative emoji's and these were to members that I felt were stalking me, it seemed every comment I made on different AN articles these members would give me a sad or confused reaction.

Keep up the great work AN ????

Thanks ????

BTW, can we add a hug emoji? ????

LOL

So you want a nice "woke" world where only nice things can be said and no truthful reactions to comments expressed.

I am not sure if that was aimed at me. If it was then please read my original post again:

"My aim, especially with controversial comments, is to see how many people, or more precisely which percentage, disagree with me.

Now I might see that 1 or 5 or 10 agree. But I don't see if maybe 20 disagree. I would like to see how many people disagree to get a better idea about how popular some of my opinions are. It's not about being the most popular, it's about getting any feedback from others."

You write: "I don't need to do market research on how I'm being received."

I think many people, obviously including myself, live more and more in a bubble. And that is online and in real life. We often choose friends who have similar opinions or lifestyle. I.e. I have no kids. And it's seldom that I meet someone socially who has kids. But I know these people with kids exist...

And online, i.e. with YouTube (I don't use fb, etc.) we see recommendations which match what YouTube knows already about me. I.e. I see videos about fast cars. I don't see anything about the newest fashion etc.

One good thing about this forum is that it includes people with different backgrounds, age, nationality, etc. The common denominator is that many of us live in Thailand, and that's it. That is obviously also some kind of bubble, but a much bigger bubble than what we have on a daily basis.

That's one reason why I am in this forum. See what other people think - even if they have other opinions.

Good god man grow a thicker skin!

In all honesty there are posters on this forum who are laughable and pointless replying to in any serious way, so the laugh option is perfectly applicable.

Nope, I hate the woke's and their comments.

Read my comments and you will understand where I'm coming from.

I would like a world FREE of negative reactions.

It was too easy for the lazy members to send a negative reaction to a comment, then the OP has no idea why they received this negative reaction. Reply with question so the OP can explain.

Members reading articles then willy, nilly throwing out a sad or confused emoji, bloody childish.

You can still give your opinion , its just a two emojis have been removed

Well that's plain bonkers. Negative reactions are perfectly normal, there should at least be a thumbs down if you're having a thumbs up. And yes, some posts aren't worthy of a response beyond derision and laughter.

No, the lack of those two options makes a significant difference to member interaction. That's my opinion, though clearly you prefer a happy, happy, cuddly, we're all winners, snowflake friendly environment.

Why are you being so difficult.

I'm anti snowflakes and anti woke's.

It's about professional behavior.

It's bloody lazy and a childish act to bombard members with negativity without explanation.

Problems occur when people laugh at serous posts .

Its extremely  rude to laugh in peoples faces when they are being serious

and I always thought that these emojis were just a bit of fun, and that intelligent adults would treat them as such.  Do people on this forum really get angry when someone posts a sad or funny emoji?  How frail they are!

Just now, SAFETY FIRST said:

If it's more like stalking that's a different matter, one for the moderators to handle, but there are posts that are genuinely funny and there are posts that are risible and not worthy or a reply. Better to remove the abusers rather than the limit the options of all members.

The confused response I would probably agree should go; if you're confused then say so and ask for clarification.

I would like to see the laughing response restored, along with a dislike thumbs down option.

Its rather annoying when certain people just laugh at your all posts just because you wrote something that upset them and they chase you round forums laughing at you , its also annoying when people don't speak and just pull faces , when they cannot actually explain or ask about what confuses them

Well done, seek you explained yourself , you didn't have to post an emoooji , you didn't have to post a laugh, you managed to talk.

   We have progression

(I dont think that you are know overusing and wrongly using the word "snowflake" )

Agree, I found stalking was active, a few members sending me negative emoji's on every comment I made.

Me too, many times I've had a good laugh reading a comment from a member who had been funny.

Worthy of a laughing response.

Well said.

To much snow flake / Pc  behavior on this forum.

Should be more emojis.  to choose from.

Bet someone will hit the report button about this post.
