The Trump Organization charged the Secret Service “exorbitant rates” – upwards of $1.4 million over four years – to protect the former President and his family at properties they owned, according to documents released by the House Oversight Committee on Monday.

The committee found that the Trump Organization charged the Secret Service “excessive nightly rates on dozens of trips” as high as $1,185 per night despite claims by the former President’s company that federal employees traveling with him would stay at those properties “for free” or “at cost.”

“The exorbitant rates charged to the Secret Service and agents’ frequent stays at Trump-owned properties raise significant concerns about the former President’s self-dealing and may have resulted in a taxpayer-funded windfall for former President Trump’s struggling businesses,” the panel’s chairwoman, New York Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney, wrote in a letter to the service’s director on Monday.

This is the political system that enables such an unqualified person to assume the highest office in the land. If it works for them, fine. I just wish that they stop shoving it down other nations’ throats.

They could have stayed at a local Motel 6 or Howard Johnson's.

Better yet they could have stayed in Washington DC. The farther from Trump the better.

But the Trump International Hotel wasn't a Motel 6 or Ho-Jo's.

So... 14 mil over 4 yrs.  Who cares ?

And...

"U.S. taxpayers spent nearly $16 million for President Obama and his family to travel to Hawaii and Africa last year, according to records obtained by watchdog organization Judicial Watch.

The documents, obtained from the Air Force through a Freedom of Information Act request, show the president incurred $15.9 million in flight expenses alone for 2013 trips made to Africa and Christmas vacation in Hawaii.

The difference is that not only were Trump's travel expenses paid, but he actually made a profit from this trips.

Completely off topic but I have just noticed his hair in the OP. Bizarrely never noticed it before. It looks for all the world as if he has somehow reversed a mullet to lie forward over his crown!

I suppose that ( a vain attempt to claw my way back onto the topic) he needed to charge such inventive rates to raise the funds to pay his hairdresser, who familiar with Mr Trump's business practices demanded cash up front before attempting such an extraordinary and dramatic piece of sculpture!

$1.4 million only the tip of the iceberg. Full expenditure accounts of the secret service at Trump’s organization properties have yet to be handed over to the oversight committee. Chairwoman Maloney has given the agency director up to 31 Oct to comply with the committee request for full disclosure.

Knowing Trump it would be shocking if he didn't do grifts like this.

The "hilarious" thing is that he's still the leading republican. What does a guy have to do to lose his base?

Well he could shoot someone..........ah, but that wouldn't work according to him because his base would still fully support him no matter what he did!! Unbelievable, and you simply couldn't make this stuff up.

False equivalence.  All Presidents travel, but they don't typically have government money being paid into their own pockets.  Can you understand the difference?

So your problem is Trump received the money. his company. What if it was Obama or Clinton then I guess it would be okay.

More anti-trump no matter what.

They have to stay somewhere but not a trump property any place but.

Got it.

Your comparison between Trump and Obama/Clinton is absurd!

I don't think that either Obama or Clinton, or even any other POTUS(s) had such a huge property portfolio where they could "accommodate" and charge US Government employees such exorbitant rates and thereby line their pockets!

If Trump wasn't allowed to fleece the US government, he may decide not to run for POTUS.  So the Trump Org case may be rather significant politically afterall...

[Conviction could prompt the government to bar the Trump Organization from doing business as a federal contractor, including cutting off the spigot of Trump's lucrative — and critics say exorbitant — billing of Secret Service agents who stay at his properties while protecting the former president and his family.]
