Jailed and blacklisted: Frenchmen in attack on Thai man ordered held by court - driver is Hua Hin man with Thai wife

Two French men arrested for an attack on a Thai motorcyclist who was knocked unconscious on Saturday night have been ordered held without bail by the court in Koh Samui southern Thailand.

 

The attack happened in the Chawaeng area of the holiday island. Video footage that can be seen on YouTube here showed the passenger of a red plate white Porsche attack Somkhuan Songkhot with fists and kicks. He is still in ICU.

The Porsche had tailgated Somkhuan's bike after his wife who was riding pillion had remarked on the beauty of the car and wanting one.

 

Daily News suggested there had been a collision without giving further evidence. 

 

Now further details have emerged about the two men in the luxury car who Siam Rath named in English as 34 year old Bugeya Vincent Raymond, the passenger who assaulted Somkhuan, and Vincent Julien Gerard Rene, 28, the driver.

 

Daily News called them businessmen.

 

Yesterday Pol Capt Sirachat Kamunee of the Bo Phut police took both men to court where Lakhana, 47, opposed bail.

They were then taken to the Koh Samui District Prison where they will be held as police and prosecutors prepare the case against them.

 

They have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and driving a motor vehicle with a red plate at night. 

 

Whether they were drunk or not at the time of the attack is as yet undetermined. Sirachat said that is because when they were arrested they were drinking in a bar. They had alcohol readings of more than 100 mg each. They had not taken drugs. 

 

Surat Thani immigration chief Pol Col Supharik Phankoson said that the man who actually attacked Somkhuan was in Thailand on a 30 day tourist visa after arriving from Munich, Germany, on September 19th at Suvarnabhumi. His visa was up today. He gave his address as Hua Hin.

The driver of the Porsche was on a one year marriage visa (he has a Thai wife) and was permitted to stay in Thailand until August 26th next year. He lives in Hua Hin with his wife and child or children.

 

He had made a total of 28 visits to Thailand his last one being in May this year.

 

The pair were holidaying in Samui after arriving on October 4th. The 28 year old's wife and children had already returned to Hua Hin. 

 

Both men will be recommended for blacklisting, said Col Supharik.

What I don't understand is why they are both in trouble.

I have seen the footage that the Thia press have managed to overlook and I'm not really sure about who I believe was in the wrong at this time, I'm waiting for more information to come in.

 

However, I do not understand what the driver did apart from being there.

Is their some other footage that I have missed?

Is the driver being blacklisted for driving on red plates at night or did he do something that I haven't seen in any of the reports?

anyone got a link for the original, start to finish, as hate to come in on the middle of a conversation.

 

Remember a Hua Hin incident, where all were negative about Thais during a punch up, but when whole vid was played, then obviously the farang tourists started it, the Thais simply finished it.

Sure! Would have sounded a little bit different if the tables were turned, right? As usual, defend the mad foreigners at all costs. My vote is on that everyone who defends such bad people coming to Thailand should be deported as well.

He stopped the car and got out He  should of just kept driving

Again, what crime is he being blacklisted for?

If there indeed had been a collision, he would have broken the law by not stopping.

No reports anywhere of the French guys account of what happened. 
 

& why both arrested ? Surely it was only one of them involved in the flight.

 

There is still a lot of missing information, or us the media being selective about ‘only’ reporting the ‘nice car’ comment from the wife, who as we can see from one of the videos is already lying (the Thai guy clearly a participating party in the fight).

Selective editing.

 

They cut the part out immediately before this where the Frenchman started walking away and the Thai guy goes after him and throws a leg kick. I haven't seen it from the start either, but the longest edit I saw showed this.

 

Starts with the Frenchman getting up off the floor (presumably he was knocked down there and didn't choose to sit down in the road of his own accord).

Thai guy kicks him.

French guy throws a punch that knocks the Thai over.

French guy starts walking away

Thai gets up and goes after him again throwing another leg kick.

Then the part shown by the Youtube video with the kick and the final punch by the Frenchman.

 

It didn't show who started it but it did shows that this wasn't a one sided attack. Far from it.

Yes, sure! Never the foreigner at fault. This is a really sad place for people trying to defend all donkey´s entering Thailand.

You are only seeing bias because you are bias.

 

Watch the video. 

No one is suggesting the French guys are not wrong for their actions, but, a lot of ppl have identified that the Thai guy is not as innocent as the reports and some comments suggest. 
 

The Thai guy is clearly a willing participant in the fight and complicit in his own injuries.

It could matter from a legal perspective. 

It definitely (IMO) matters from a moral perspective, the French guy could be seen to walk away when the Thai guy re-escalated with a kick.

 

 

This doesn’t appear to be the ‘cold unprovoked one sided assault’ reported in the media. 

It was a two sided fight which could be considered a mitigating circumstance.

 

 

There is still a lot missing from the story.
